Picked up my '93 SE today finally. Very nice car - nice on the freeway. I'll post pics as soon as I can. Quiet, comfortable and adequate power. Hopefully more will be on the way...

Things I need to do:

Adjust clutch
Fix brakes
Figure out why power locks click but don't work

Describe the power locks problem... my door locks are kinda fussy to unlock from outside with the key. I have to hold the key in the unlock position while opening the handle to get the door to open, otherwise the door will lock back up. This is usually when it's cold out.

You got the BOSE tape only or CD/tape deck?

Pictures???

I am now home in NY for the next couple of weeks. Got to drive the ol' 84 Celica around a bit. Sweet!

From what I've read the door lock problem is due to a bad door timer unit.

I have probelms with my driver's side door lock too. It's a littl *****. It like unlocks and then I try to take out the key and it locks all the doors again. I've had them fixed once already but it didn't work.

Reversing door locks

what did they do to fix it the first time? I'm gonna take my door panel off tomorrow and try to figure it out. I'll let you all know what I find (if anything)

Occationally my trunk and driver side doors are hard to unlock ( due to cold weather). what I did was spray a bit of wd40 on my key and then use the locks. worked great so far.

??? I thought you lived in LA? Hmmm. Anyway, I haven't played with it much but when I press the 'lock/unlock' button on the driver's door I hear a relay click from under the dash, but nothing locks or unlocks. I've tried lcoking the doors from the outside and I can't - I have to push all the buttons down by hand and close the door - but I still hear the clicking under the dash like it's at least trying. When I tried it at the lot, it did the same thing once, but the second time I tried it, everything worked. It also has a bad battery, but I only tried that after I just got back from a drive when the battery was charged.

It has the Bose speakers but the owner put a Pioneer Tape deck/CD changer and a 6 disc changer in the trunk. Not the best stuff but it sounds good for now and was all professionally installed. I wouldn't mind getting a Bose CD head unit and keeping it stock.

Other than that, I'm gonna try and throw my '86T 300ZX whels on and see what it looks like - it will probably be screaming for some Eibachs. MMM. I also hafta adjust the clutch and see about findign a battery. It will need rotors, pads and maybe a master-cylinder and then it's done. For a while. Love those gauges at night.

yeah sweet gauges... too bad the rest of the dash lights up all different colors but eh...

I go to college in Michigan but I'm from NY originally. I'm back in NY for semester break and the holidays. It's a fun 11 hour drive.

I think you jinxed me Jacob, as soon as I go out to my ar this morning, I hit the unlock button and nothing worked! Whereas they always worked before. After a while it worked again. I hear it's a bad lock timer unit.

You probably won't be able to put the BOSE stuff back in, you'll need the BOSE speakers and amps also. Each speaker has its own amp. It's great for a stock system but it still leaves some to be desired, mostly because there are so many problems with the BOSE (Clarion) head unit. It's kinda neat when it makes the power antenna go up and down doing a dance... I'm looking to upgrade it all soon

About the door lock problems

I thought my car was just possessed but it does similar stuff It wouldnt let me out one time...id hit unlock, and it would lock right back. I had to take and manually hold up the lock (against the resistance of the solenoid) and get out.
Sometimes it'll lock itself out of nowhere too...but normally it'll unlock and stay.

yet another electrical nuisance! sheesh, i am scared of the electrics in this thing. I had my door panel off today and sprayed WD-40 on the lock cylinder and all pivot points and such. The lock turns much smoother now but it still locks when you release the key. It's most likely the timer unit that does that too. ah, I can live with it until I fix it or buy a new one

DOH!!

I bought a battery tonight (well, two - just so happens the battery in Mom's minivan went out too) and suddenly my power locks work again. Maybe these were related?? I dunno - everythign else worked.

Ah well.

Yep - this is why I NEVER do anything with a car anymore without the door or at least the window open. Cars these days have so much electronic crap that you can't be too safe!

Power locks. I had the same problem. I bought a used panel switch cluster $35 online. This wasn't the problem. It was a loose connect the the main panel. My mechanic fixed it last week. Unfortunately I was in a hurry and couldn't talk details. He's gone to vietnam for 3 weeks so if you can't find the fix, keep my email on file and in 3 weeks I'll update.

Where is the main panel?

If you could email me when you find this out, I would greatly appreciate it. My locks worked yesterday, but today they don't again (though I still hear the clicking noise under the dash). Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am planning on getting some sort of keyless entry system one of these days.

Mine seems to only work when it was cold or moist out. This maybe the pattern your experiencing. All I know now is it didn't take any parts to fix it.
