building a vg
After a futile search for a VE 5spd, I have decided that a good project would be to rebuild a vg. Because I have a year off school and nothing to spend my money on, I could buy a vg30e from a salvage yard and spend however much time is necessary to rebuild it. I can get a 94 vg30e with 90k for $425, and from reading old posts on the subject, I gather that spending $350 for a vg30de core engine would also be good. I plan to swap the pistons, rods, crank, injectors and fuel pump from the vg30de, and buy the JWT stage 2 cams. Any suggestions on how to improve this? I would also hopefully get some head work done and some other block work, as well as doing a 5spd swap.

are there any issues with mounting the vg33e or fitting it, or does it have the same exterior dimensions as the 30, but just bored? It seems that while many of the parts would fit, some pieces, such as pistons, would have to be custom made. If I could easily get all of the higher performance parts for the vg33e, then I'll definitely do it, but I would rather swap existing parts than fabricate new ones.

Nismo, you mention the motorsport 280 grind cams; are those more aggressive than the JWT stage II cams which have a 473 degree lift and 266 degree advance? Also, how expensive are they, and where do you get them. Thanks
