My freind suprised me when he chirped 3rd with his VG!

He has a PR Intake, JWT clutch, UR Flywheel and cryogenic treated tranny and clutch. Yes it was dry and a striaght road. I was giving him sum pointers and had him try. He let the tires loose into 2nd pretty bad then into third chirped big time and I was like

VG has a lot of torque, but loses its efficiency at high rpm- you could probably tell the biggest difference between his vg and your ve at the top right? I know driving my mom's VQ is night and day over 4000 rpm.

That's the truth. VGs make most of their power down low as opposed to VEs. VGs get killed on the top end but are strongest in low to mid powerband.

chirp

I used to chirp in my 91se 5spd earlier on this year. Don't feel it's good on an 11year old car, so i chill on that now.

They still cant match a VE 5 speed on the bottom, mid, or top, I have seen it too many times. Auto VE is a little different.

Yeah he has great low end and some time gets a car length on me from start(Damm Traction) but then I just pass him. His has low miles for a 90SE about 90k or under. He's wanted to make sure that he had the tranny built up for some power before he starts modding. He's smart

If I can't chirp 2nd in stock form is that a sign of an old clutch?

Yes, If I try I can chirp 3rd in a stock VE 5 speed. If you cant chirp into 2nd or if your car kind of drags into second (like if your feather the clutch on a launch) your clutch is slipping.

Thanks, very helpful. I'm not good at describing or determining clutch behavior so that helped a lot. I'll be saving up for an ACT organic next, most likely.

A VG has more torque than the VE till around 3400-3600rpm. A VEs torque peak is 4k rpm, where as the VG does 2500rpm. Midrange should be close with the nod to the VE, but the VE is all toppend. That is unless the powervalve in the IM wasn't working.

Yeah, I agree...But from my experience...There a certain *AHEM* SoCal VG 5 speed owner whom is fullllly modded, tranny, etc...and knows how to drive, but still gets raped off the line and all the way up top by the stock VE 5 speed.

I used to be able to chirp third. . . . . but the clutch is wayyyyyy to burnt up. I would get a new one but you know how much money that is right. . . . .. the vg's still have alot of power though. the clutch makes alot of difference.

When you shift and the wheels break traction for a brief moment and you get that little 'chirp' sound. Oh, did you get the floor mat cutouts in the mail yet?

Well a VG would take it very nice off the line, but the auto should come back at around 45mph and lay some distance.
