Help ME!!

Well I'm buyin a Maxima & I need sum help.

I am looking at two the first one is a 1993 Maxima full options wicked as car, but it has 147,000km on the clock. When i started it in the car yard, it took a few turns 2 get it started which i though woz normal, it had been sitting there 4 a while. I noticed though when i revved it a bit there woz a very quiet tapping clicking noise from the motor. Is this that VTC problem the VE30DE have, coz i won't buy it if it is, wil all VE30DE have or eventually get this?

The 2nd car I hav chosen is 1990 Maxima with 127,000km on it, same colour & options, same price

I don't know whether 2 go for the VE30DE or the VG30E. I have heard the VE30DE is better & quicker than the VG but i don't want the VTC problem. I am swayed a bit 2 the VG30 coz its done less km but i would prefer the knewer car & engine, but like i said i won't buy it if it has the VTC problem.

Wats everyones opinion?

its up to you, if you want the power get the VE and replace the vtc with a rewire the craig b offers. If you want just a pratical car get the VG. I would go with the VE for more performance, but i dont know what your needs are with it having higher mileage, maximas will go for close to 250k-300k miles if maintained.

Sometimes it's hard to tell if a ticking is coming from the valve lifters, VTCs, or the fuel injectors firing. I think VTC tapping is louder than either lifter noise or injectors. Injectors are pretty quiet and you can't really hear them with the hood closed, bad (or just cold) lifters are louder. The VTC ticking sometimes goes away when the engine fully warms up, but I'm pretty sure it's a fairly loud tick/tap.

Not all VEs will develop tap, it depends on how well it has been and will be maintained.

If the cars are both manual transmission the VG will drive fine and is pretty fast. Not too fast if it's a VG auto though.
