Jim Wolf Technologies Chip Kit ??

Hello...I am a brand new member. I did the search but couldn't find anything about the chip kits made by Jim Wolf Technologies. From what I've read they are the only legitimate chip kit for Nissans.

I want to juice up my 1994 Maxima SE a little...and called a few places asking if they would install this chip kit including a car speed shop and a Nissan dealership. (don't laugh...I am totally ignorant and new to this so please forgive if I sound silly!!). They all refused. I also found a disgruntled ex-Nissan dealership mechanic who opened his own shop; who knows everything about Maximas and he told me he wouldn't do it either.

They all said I would screw up my car and may blow up my engine? Everyone around here refuses to do anything related to making any modifications to my Maxima. I am a female with NO mechanical skills and simply want to add a little horse power to my Maxima. Nothing radical...just a little more power.

Has anyone installed this chip kit and what effect has it had on your Maxima? Are there any other modifications you need to do to prevent blowing up your engine? Are these people being ultra-paranoid or something? Do you think I should forget about doing anything because I can't do mechanical work myself?

Also, have any of you upgraded your transmission with the Mobiltek Valvebody upgrade? Have you seen a great improvement in your automatic transmission's performance? Mine has become sluggish lately...it's just not as good as it used to be.

I would greatly appreciate any advice I can get from you pros out there!

it is a general consensus that you should only get the chip AFTER you've got all the bolt on mods, meaning intake/exhaust. the chip won't blow your engine up, but when you run the chip you will need to run 90+ ocatne fuel to prevent detentonation

if you want extra hp, i'd just pikc up the intake, and exhaust set up, catback, cat, downpipe, but all those alone will run you at least a grand

i havent used the mobiltek, but it helps with shifting and prolongs your tranny life

A chip is honestly the last thing you want to do when modifying your car. You want to start with the boltons like intake and exhaust. After doing so the ECU is more beneficial because it gives you a power increase based on your current horsepower. IE you can get 10% gains over stock numbers or 10% of your stock number plus the amount you've added with other modifications.

If you do decide to buy the chip it will not blow up your engine. I along with other members have NEVER had that problem with one of JWT's chips. As for the install, find a local speed/import shop to do it for you. They will have no problems with the install. Mechanics shun away from modifications because they have no idea what they do.

I personally would stay away from Don's Mobiltek VB upgrade. Read around on here...people have way to many customer service issues with them..

It wouldn't really matter which order you did the modding, I think the ECU is probably the best NA power adder next to the Y pipe and cams. Basically you send JWT an ECU they reprogram it and ship it back. If you did the ECU first, then did intake + Y pipe the car will feel like a torque monster trust me .

Can we use the Y pipe? I was reading it is only for off-road vehicles and something about it possibly not meeting emissions standards?

Y-pipes are fine...if anything the 4th gener's up could run into a problem because it eliminates the pre-cats but we're fine

I have the VB mod on my auto and I'm not impressed at all. It's hardly different than stock.

I may be an isolated case though, but who knows.

And btw, welcome to the .org
