Rubber wing??

Hey guys.... i got a question. I just bought a 89 max se. One odd thing is that it's spoiler is made out of rubber!! I don't know if it is a rubber but some sort of material that i'm not familiar with. It looks just like the factory spoiler. And my friend said he also saw a max with the same spoiler! So for those of you who has a regular 3rd gen max spoiler..... is this factory or what??!!

All SE's came with a stock "Squishy" spoiler. It's foam, and prone to rust on the ends.

this is very hard to take......

So you guys have a different spoiler or still have the factory on?
Know any place where they sell "real" spoiler... with same factory look??

Who cares if it's rubber. It's such a great pickup line:

"Hey, wana squeeze my spoiler?"

Try it sometime, garunteed to get the girls.

all stock 3rd gen spoilers are the same

I guess the ones you've seen are aftermarket

I have a 93SE with NERF spoiler and I've seen many other VEs with the same

like Craig said I have a 93SE (VE) with a soft spoiler. My parts car is a 89SE and it has the exact same spoiler.

Nerf Yeah, mine is toast. Lookie. Its actually bent on the left side of the light, so its pulling up the whole left side of the spoiler. Its being held down now by two screws through the trunk lid. I cant wait to toss this dang thing!

Nope thats not it (I know you were joking but...) I took my stock spoiler off and put on a Stillen and the trunk will fly all the way up(fast) when I pop the trunk because the fiberglass Stillen wing is so much lighter...I thought about leaving it that way so when I take groceries to the car I can just hit the button on my alarm and the trunk would open all the way for me but it swings up so fast I am worried it will mess up the hinges or something.

They did it because it was easier and cheaper to do.

It's not lighter. I took mine off to do a re-paint, and it's actually pretty heavy for a wing. Defintely outweighs a fiberglass equal.

Anyway, mine got a little crack in it now (dry rot???) and after a damp evening, I have a little patch of moss growing in there. I gotta scrape it out with a knife every week or it makes the crack bigger.

The nerf wing (actually urethane) is odd, but paint doesn't chip off as easy as a fiberglass or injection molded wing would.

That is one of the reason I went with the Stillen since I am getting the car painted.

The soft spoiler makes for a good soft place to lean on when talkin outside near your car. I bought mine with the spoiler having an ashy look to it and the only thing i can do to revive the color is to put ArmorAll. on it

they may be squishy but they aren't soft... look at that picture of the wing that is bent... it is clearly sticking up and not limp, unless it's using viagra

Bad Foam, bad. Sit.

My 1994 SE has the soft foam spoiler. What an engineering mistake! Nissan made a spoiler that holds water like a sponge which causes the anchor clips to rust and then break. The left side of my spoiler is held on by body tape. The foam also breaks down as it ages and then becomes wavy and mishapen. I am going to buy a new spoiler next year.

wing

hey on my maxima se i have one of those soft wings and on the left side it is starting to come off not all the way but there is a little gap. So what kind of adhesive should I use i heard someone say bodytape does that work well and it is durable or maybe something else i don't know someone let me know what works.

You can buy double sided "body" tape at Wal-Mart. Mine has held for three years. It is just now starting to come off. The total effect of the defect is not usually noticed by others. It is very apparent to me though. That is why I want to buy a new spoiler. The body shop said about $200 to paint and mount a new one NOT including the cost of the spoiler.
