I am looking into the 3rd gen Maximas... i am in the market for a reliable, practical but not ***** used car ...

I have looked at your standard cars that everyone has.. civics, accords, etc. and for some reason I am attracted to the Maxs.

Anyway... basically I just need some convincing why a Maxima is a way better investment than say and similarly priced accord.

Just fire away with what u know

I'll give you the reason's I'm planning on purchasing one:

No other Sedan in it's class that offers a V6 w/ over 170 hp w/ 5-speed tranny. (OK, Jetta and Passat, but I don't want leather)

Great looking

Indy. rear suspension

With proper maint. the engine will last forever. (be sure to check for VTC falure in the 92-94 SE model.)

If you get 92-94 SE you also get VSLD

Anything I missed?

MAX VS. ACCORD

maxima SE:
Rides Better
more engine
nicer interior
V6 Power 190HP/TQ for an SE
Smooth
worse gas mileage
Better sound system
Reliable

Accord SE:
Lighter in weight, better racer
more mods
better gas mileage
Better ergonomics
Lack of power 150 HP
Reliable

Both have automatic seat belts, Accords generally rust at the quarter panels by the wheel wells, maximas at the edge of the rear door jam. Honda Mods are more plentiful, but the maxima Defenitely comes with more. also, some find teh accord's ride kind of utilitarian, not really confidence inspiring and at times harsh

get the max

everyone has accords, they look cheesy. get one and you'll be just like everyone else, and riding in an uglier car than me! I think you can get more then enough mods for your max if that's what you're into. I don't have enjough money for all that I want, and I'm sure most ppl in here have a wishlist also. Just look at some of the cars in here...It speaks for itself. Pklus the engine is good for over 300,000 miles...

Weak spot--auto trannies. Search for trannie probs and you'll find many. 5-speeds are much better (wish i had one hehe)

If I were you, I would buy a 5spd Maxima SE '93 or '94. They are good, dependable vehicles and are pretty damn fast stock and they handle really well stock. Supposedly the only year you don't need to worry about VTC failure (besides the '89-'91's) is the '94. The problem was supposed to be fixed. The gas mileage is really not that bad. The rest of the perks are pretty much what everyone else says about the interior being better etc. Plus the Maxima just looks better than an Accord or Camry. Yes, mods are more plentiful for an Accord, but most of those mods are available for a Maxima and we here at Maxima.org can tell you where to get them and cheap. So I think you're mind should be made up on a Maxima. Just make sure if you get one that you take care of it and it'll last forever.

If your not too high into preformance get a 89-91 SE 5spd. They came with the VG motor so you don't have to worry about those pescy VTC's. And the VG is much more stronger. Not as much horsepower VG = 160, VE = 190. But it still has ***** out the ying yang. And modded is a VERY quick car.

Any max is a good max though.

only prob with those years are the ugly grills. oh yea, and those VG's :0) i have over 100k on my max and don't have any VTC problems. and if you do, ground it and you'll still have more HP than a VG! just my opinion

VE will pull on a VG at high speeds, other than that it will be dead even or the VG will pull on the VE. And the grills are easy to swap out, and the VTC problem isn't in every car, but in alot and is a pesky problem.

If it is ticking from your exhaust up front it's one of 2 things, the Studs or you have a hole in your Y-Pipe. The stock y has a steel heat shield around where they connect coming off the manifolds, and that heat shield rust that connection out pretty easily. I had the ticking sound, welded my Y pipe shut and now it's gone.

mods, mods, mods

thats all i have to say......Max's are more powerful and all that, but your could hook up a 94' accord soo much more than a 94' max. (i love my max) but the only mods are like clear corners, only a couple diff. springs, and a bunch of other gay stuff....your could spend $30,000 just on mods for an accord....they have everything for that fu*kin car.

Reason i like max's is if u mod one, you're pretty unique. I see modded accords n civics so much it makes me sick.
I see lots of maximas but 90% i see are stock.

you can get everything for a maxima that you can for an accord.....except like headers and just little crappy cosmetic mods. the thing is that for honda there's like 20 companies making the same product whereas for the max there's like 2-3. not many more products at all....just more companies making the same product. and after all the mods on the accord, the max will still take it with minor mods, and look better doing it.

VG vs. VE i dunno man, I've killed VG's before and i haven't had one pull close to me yet. I'm not sayin it can't be done, i've just never seen one get close. it's funny cause to the untrained eye, it's hard to tell an SE from a GXE so they think we have the same car, but when we stop at the next light they ask what i've got done to my max, i'mlike "nothin man, just minor stuff" i've even beat modded GXE's. i dunno. just opinion i guess.
