Wacky Temp Guage

89', 150,00 miles. I'll just be driving casually, not uphill, no AC, no nothing and the engine temp guage will go up ever so slightly, not enough to warrant pulling over but enough to notice. 2 minutes later it just goes back to normal. I'm thinking maybe just a bad needle or a bad thermostat. Any ideas??

I'm thinking coolant flush before replacing the thermostat. The needle seems to be workign fine, dont' mess with that. Check and make sure your fans are working.

How exactly would I test the fans?? I know they come on when the vents are blowing. Help.

i dunno how a non-working fan would cause the temp needle to jump around but.... you can check your fans by unplugging the connection that goes into a silver cylindrical thing with two ac lines leading in/out it in front of the battery and jumping it with a wire. turn your car and ac on. the fans should turn when this is jumped. the silver thing checks for pressure in the ac system.

the needle will move down when the fan turns on. and will slowly move back up when the fans are off... once a certain temp is reached the fan turns back on.

also check the connections to the sensor for the gauge because it gets real dirty... it's located to the right of the front fuel injectors. it's the brass looking thing right in front of the red connector which is another temp sensor that should be checked and cleaned.

good luck.
