92 SE. Makes a funny noise when I start it in the morning cold. Kind of a whining, high pitched sound...comes from engine area, lasts about 2 seconds, then quickly goes away. Hate to think what it means for my engine, sounds pretty bad..but it's been doing it for almost 6 months, no noticable problems except warm engine acceleration sucks..but it's been like that since I got it, and there have been enough posts on that prob. Probably VTC's or knock sensor...but does that relate to the weird sound?

 

Belts? Squeaky/loose belts will do that on start-up.

I'd put my money on that. It's about the only thing that can make a whining high-pitched noise.

So, check and make sure your belts are tight, and tighten accordingly.
