I have a 93 GXE and the trans seems to slip in 2nd gear on initial acceleration, the catches up as the car gains speed.

Is this a terminal affliction or something that can be adjusted/rebuilt? How awful a job?

Needs to be Rebuilt!!

Had the same problem with my '92 GXE, only with mine it seemed like it slipped into neutral for a second and then "caught" back on to drive. Anyways, I drove around with it for a little bit, and eventually made the appointment to have it rebuilt. On the way to driving it to the place where I was getting it fixed, I lost 3rd gear and had to drive the remainder of the way there in 2nd.

Good: Now I have a rebuilt tranny with a 2 year/24,000 mile warranty.

Bad: Cost me $1800.

Good Luck!!

Another trannie death... :
if u can do the labor youself u can get it done for like 1k...some shops wont do that though(they claim they need to test it in the car first). Its not an easy job especially if u dont have a shop. Haynes manual says motor/trans has to come out in one piece. plus theres a problem A/C line ran over the trannie(i bent mine outa the way--not reccomended though).

$2500?! Damn & I thought I paid alot. Initial price came out to $2200 but I had a $100 off coupon so I paid $2100. I have a 12 month/12Kmile warranty which I will hit in about 6-7 months.

That was about average around here, I DID NOT want to take a cheap route either, y'know like with a junkyard, or sum slime ball, I just coudlnt take any chances losing anymore money. When I first took mine in, they said about 1500 at best 2500 at worst, well of course I got worse ;-) I did get a sweet warranty tho, 3 yrs, which is the longest Ive found, they also service it ever year for free. Stupid f'in max trannies!
