Yes.

Did you make sure all of the old seal had been removed and that the metal surfaces were clean and free of any grit or debris? While installing the replacement seal it is important to carefully and slowly tap it into place without letting it get cocked. Then you need to make sure it is fully seated in the correct final position. Finally, you need to be careful not to damage the seal while re-installing the axle shaft. It sounds like you may have no option other than replacing the seal again.

In many seal replacement situations, one can use the old seal to drive the new seal into position.

Do you remember how far the original seal was seated in? The first time I put the passenger side seal in, it went in too deep and wouldn't seal. The second one I put in flush with the tranny case (like the original), now seals perfectly.

so you're saying that the seal isn suppose to go all the way in. Because if i remember correctly it did go in pretty far. As soon as it stops raining i will do it again. Did you guys use a socket to push it in or did you guys use something else??

I used the old seal (and a hammer) on the driver's side and a wooden dowel on the passenger side. Just take your time and be gentle. I also put some wheel bearing grease on the inner and outer surfaces but that isn't necessary, you could lube it with transmission fluid if you like.

Tranny seal

I had the same problem. I am going to have to replace the driver side again. Put the new seal in the freezer for a couple of hours. It should contract enought to slide right in. If not go to radio shack and buy some freeze spray and hit it with that.

Just a word of caution -- extreme cold temperatures can make seals brittle and less flexible, thereby increasing the risk of damage to the seal during installation.
