ok so a day ago, i noticed that my shifter was vibrating a lot more, not like the rumble that it normaly has, but like a fast vibrating motion to it when the car is in motion, or you rev the engine. i looked under the hood, and gave it some gas and heard a small, high pitched sounds, kinda like a whine. any one have any ideas on what it could be?


1990 se 5sp, 150k miles on it. original tranny and clutch.

 

150k on the original clutch!? Daamn...can you say "granny driver"?

 

not at all, i dont know about the first owner, but the second owner who had it from about 60k to 143k deff was no granny, and i got nos in my veins.

 

might be the exhuast studs

if they broke it might be a leak

 

any other ideas?

 

use a long tube, hold one end to your ear and move the other on top of your engine. it helps to isolate where the sound is from. that may help.

do you hear any whine when not giving it gas? is the idle normal?

 

the whine is getting worse, it does it even when its in nuetral and idol. it does it the most when the rpms are droping, (when im slowing down), and the shifter vibrates more.
