Is this a good price for manual tranny parts?

Yes this is about a 5spd conversion.

Local yard offered all parts W/O tranny for $150.00. He told me 850 for all parts and tranny. The car is smashed front and back, has 206,000 miles (90SE) on the odo, shift **** is all worn. Haven't seen under the car yet. Will be pulling the parts next Saturday.

Also, he told me that I wouldn't need drive axles. I have a 92GXE w/ABS. Does anyone know for sure?

Is the price fair?

I'm not really considering buying this old tranny, just the parts...

Thanks in advance.

In my 91 FSM, it says that the axles are the same for all models. Can someone check in a 92 FSM for part number? If not, I'll ask the dealer on Monday.

So what's the verdict? Is 150 a good price for everything except the tranny?

Thanks.

it's kinda like "you get what u pay for". if you intend keeping the car for a while, just close your eyes and get brand new parts.

YOu should be Fine... If YOU HAVE ABS and the tranny your pulling it from doesnt Thats ok..

If it would be different if you dont have ABS and you are trying to USE ABS shafts but thats not the case..

My maxima's 5spd Tranny came from a car with ABS and i have Non abs and it works fine

ALL the end shafts on the drive shafts are the same.. only difference between ABS and NON is the sprocket at the end for the ABS sensor

Sweet, thanks for the replies. Maybe I'll ask him to throw in the axles just for the fun of it. He seems like he'd do it.

Hehe, $650 for mine. That was tranny, lines, clutch/slave cylinder, pedals, mounting bolts/screws/etc, shifter assembly, shift boot and console piece. All I need is a clutch kit. Although, those bastards at the junk yard left out the ecu and tranny wiring harness so I'm not sure if I can get the tach working (don't know the differences in the auto and manual harnesses). Plus, I guess I will have to live with the CEL on until I get the ecu. I'm happy for $650 though. Now I just need to get the parts in. BTW, I was also told that I don't need the drive axles.

That's a good price. How many miles on the tranny? On the 4th gen write-up, I don't think he used an ECU...maybe I'm wrong on that. Oh, that's funny about the drive axles because I just called the dealer. The first dealer told me that he needed the VIN's on both vehicles to give me a part number. Say what? Anyway so I called another dealer, and he said that the axles are the same for both (90SE and 92GXE).

This tranny has about 90k on it. Also, from what I understand, you don't need the ecu but you will have a Check Engine Light (CEL) on all the time. It won't affect anything though. Anyone know if there is any difference between the auto and manual harnesses? I assume there would be.

When I go get parts this weekend, I'll ask about the harnesses.

No one has answered my question about the price I'm paying for everything.....is it fair to pay $150 for everything used except tranny?

Shadow, if you lived closer to me (TN), we could do the whole conversion together and watch each other's back....lol

How did the 4th gen guy handle the CEL?

Ghostmax, unfortunately I live in TX so I couldn't directly help out. As for the price, $150 isn't bad. I was VERY lucky and the junk yard just gave me all the parts for free so I just paid for the tranny. Though, $150 is an okay price. And that CEL light, I don't remember if that guy ever fixed it. Its perfectly fine to leave it like that but, it doesn't take much work to swap in the manual ECU and eliminate it (if you don't pay an arm and a leg for the ecu). I'm definitely no expert but, keep posting any questions you might have and maybe we can iron out some of them. The swap really isn't all that hard, but it's definitely a big step for someone like myself that has never done it before.

you also dont need the ecu.. just the tranny doesnt use a ecu to run its totally mechanical.. now if you wanted to have reverse lights then your gonna have to do some wiring.. which isnt that hard

Hey Mykizism, how's it going? I just heard from someone here in Austin that you ran a 15.8 in your converted Max. Is that true? Did you have any mods other than the swap? I was hoping for high to mid 15's since I'd have the swap and i/y/cat/b/muffler. Did you have any CEL problem? Also, do you need the wiring harness for the tranny? I assumed so but can't be sure, since I've never done this before.

sup man, yah i ran a 15.8 about a month ago.. with my wrecked maxima. it was hilarious b/c its bascially totaled from behind and watching a wrecked maxima going down the strip looks funny.

i all i have ypipe, cat, bpipe, intake and udp.. pretty much in cooler weather my car can probably run 15.5 or a lil bit lower since the day i ran a 15.8 was really hot (summer time)

ive never had a CEL problem ever. but you dont need wireing harness for the manual tranny.. but you do need is the wiring harness from your old auto tranny.. i would cut those off the auto and plug them into the engine bay and with the loose wires hanging off.. you can connect them to what ever is coming out of the manual tranny. for revese lights to light up and what not..
