Some musings on VTC........
So I was reading a post by Jeff92se about VTC repair, and he mentioned the biggest problems are that the VTC's are the last part of the engine to get oil, and the gallies get gummed up..... Hmmmmm.
My thoughts go like this: Is it possible to make the gallie openings bigger to allow better oil flow? Could this be done to prevent VTC falure, or during a rebuild to keep the rebuilt or new asseblies from failing?
Now I have never seen the inside of the VTC assemblies so this is purely a "What if" thought. Anyone have more info that might help out here?

Yeah sure it's easy! Just take apart your engine down to the bar block, have the block and head oil gallies machined and then reinstall everything. Should only take about 1-2 hours for the whole thing!
Uh, I was kidding! It might but now your getting into the specs of the block wall thickness. What if you drill crooked and drill into the water passage or another galley? Also I don't think the passages are straight so just drilling might not work. ie.. the passages might be cast in, not milled in. And finally, I don't know what the larger passage would do to the oil pressure. To low and it might not hold the vtc assembly in the retarded position. Just a guess.

Hmmm.....interesting choice of words

Anyone else notice this correlation?
It just seems to go together.
