Mirror-Polish Stock Rims...?

Heya... Since my rims are starting to look REALLY bad, I was wondering. Is it possible to sand them down to a mirror polish, kinda like the "bling-bling" rims you can buy, and if it is, what would I need to do in order to maintain that shine... Like clearcoating or something like that?
To answer questions, no, I will NOT buy after-market rims, and YES, I do have plans to make the center piece actually look good on them.
I don't want to repaint them, I want to do something a tad different this time around

I have seen chrome SE wheels on E-bay for starters. As for polishing. I have done this to a set of plain jane KMC's with machined finish and let me tell you firsthand..it is a royal **tch. First to get them to really shine and second to keep tham that way. Definately need clearcoat or they will turn white in like a week. I suggest one of the following:
Exchange yours for some remanufactured wheels
Pay someone to professionally polish yours..not as pricey as you might think
Just sand them to a 400 grit satin finish and clear them
Get chrome

Good luck

I figured they could be sanded down and clearcoated, I just wasn't totally sure, since my experience with aluminum is next to nil, beyond turning my hands gray installing my FSTB
I'm debating if I want to use a power sander or not to start it off... Would be kinda tough getting in the holes... Hrmmm...

I hate cleaning between all those grooves in the SE wheel. When I get done going between each little groove my index finger is about to fall off.
