I'm really close to buying a 3rd Gen Maxima,
but I still have a few questions I wanna know about before I do so thanks in advance for any help you guys can give.

How reliable is the car?
How many miles is this car good for? (I found one with 135K)
How does this car compare to the newer Maximas?
How does this car compare to Nissans in general from a
performance standpoint?

Any other comments on the car would be great... thanks
guys! I hope to own me a 1993 Maxima SE soon (unfortunately,
its got an auto slushbox)

Auto trannies are weak...especially if it hasnt been maintained good. the VTC's on the SE's tend to start 'clacking' but u can ground the solenoids(simple procedure) and do away with that. They're very reliable..someone on this board has one with over 300k on orignal motor/trans. U just gotta keep up on maintinance

Just to add on.....

The VTC's are on the 92-94 SE's with the VE engines!! and I've heard there is less VTC trouble in the later '94 years! just some info to add
later year Maxs with auto trannys were built alot better than the earlier '90s models(like my POS, lol) '93 w/ 135k is kinda a stretch(IMO), but i guess if the price is good, go for it! as for performance, its all there with the 92-94 SE's VE's 190hp, but us VG guys can keep up with yall with a couple mods!!!!!

I'm beginning to think maximas suck. I've owned mine for 3 or 4 months now and I've been having some big problems with it dying and idling extremely rough. I cant figure out what the hell is wrong with it. also m door hinges are needing to be replaced. my windsheild wipers broke the other day. its a fun car to drive though and its fast. (kinda fast). oh yea my struts suck too. id trade it for a 93 SE though

Well.....

when my car used to stall at idle, I changed the O2 sensor and fuel filter(which was VERY clogged) and no more stalling!! have you done that??

Always buy the SE model. Yeah, the VTC is a ***** in the '92-'94 models, but I, too, have heard there is less trouble with this in the '94 SE models. My car has been great for the 2 years I've had it. I'll put it this way. I've done exterior damage to it and my father and I have enough faith in the car's reliability to put $4000 worth of body work into it. I've heard the engine is good for 250,000 miles.
