I'm new and I have a question
I'm new and I have a question
Im new both to this forum and to Maxima ownership. I recently purchased a '92 concept car (1 of 7 made) it has a special factory body kit and all the options. It was used as a show car for the '92 preview car shows, after its U.S. tour it was bought by a lawyer who took excelent care of it. He gave it to his youngest son who watched The Fast and the Furious too many times. The kid blew the motor on it street racing so Dad put a high performance jap spec engine in it. (I still haven't figured that one out yet) Then the kid screwed up the tranny and before Daddy could get that fixed the kid got picked up for stealing thousands of dollars in sterio equipment. So Dad decided the kid won't ever see the car again. I bought it for a song and am now in the process of fixing a few hail dents on it and I'm going to jack a new tranny under it next week.
Here's where I need a little help The kid put Street Glow underbody neons, glow pedals, and washer lights on it (all green). I didn't think I would ever like that stuff but it just looks really good on the car. The problem is the kid wired it all directly to the battery. Now I don't know much about wireing stuff into cars but I do know that that's bad. I was looking for a bit of information on a safe place to tap power from. I have a fuse/switch box and I know how to ground it all I just need juice.
I would appriciate any help anyone can give me.

Re: I'm new and I have a question
Hey Vlag how you doing,
Let me be the first to welcome you to the "org". Now your question is a little more involved than you think. When i first joined the ORG I thought my questions were ignored or flamed (dissed, heavy sacasim, chewed out or anyother type of smack that dont't answer your ?s) a lot. Till i realized that the ?s I was asking were already asked and answered dozens and dozens of times, The safest and most effective way to find out info on our beloved ORG is the S E A R C H FUNCTION. It can usually be found on the top of the page on the right hand side underneath Profile & register, between Faq & home. now back to your question. The first thing you need to do is figure out how you plan to controll the lights Ie: seperate switch or when the lights come on. (check state laws on colors before wiring them directly to your parking lights) Now if you are planing on wiring them to a deticated switch the battery is probally not a bad spot to get power from (as long as you dont leave them on all night with the engine off. Make sure the main power wire coming from the battery is properly fused. If not go to Radio Shack Trackauto Pep Boys or Walmart and get an Inline fuse holder. For lights 15 amp fuse is probally enough but if it blows just go up to the next rated fuse. Wire the fuse holder in line with the battery and the lights close to the battery. check all connections make sure your properly grounded insert a fuse and you should be fine.
Hope your ride provides tons of fun for you.

Thanks dat_nomad. I built a fiberglass box with four switches and matching fuse holders. This will allow me to kick on each set of lights separately whenever I want to. I was just a little uneasy about attaching it all back to the battery, last thing I wanted is to burn down my new car.
I checked with local laws on such lights and even printed out a copy of the revised traffic code listing the state mandates for automobile lighting to keep in the glove box just in case.
Thanks again.

Not yet, As I mentioned I'm doing a bit of touch up body work to it now The paint had some scratches so she'll get a new skin in a few days After that I'll get some pix and show her off. I didn't beleave the guy at first but after looking at about four dozen pix of '92s I haven't found one like it yet.

Thank you for the "welcomes". I really can't wait to show off my car and I'll be happy to share pictures with everyone who would like to see it.
Once again Thank you for the "welcomes" and the helpful info.

Sudesh, I'll be sure to send you my P-Pal account #
The engine is a Nissan Twin Cam 24 valve V6 3000. I'm told it's been rebuilt and "tweaked" a bit. I don't know though because I haven't been able to drive it yet. Soon though, verrrry soon.

Alright, since the engine doesn't prove anything, the 'factory' body kit you speak of will put $5 in your paypal account. Gotta see it first.
I'll be the first to admit that I know little about engines. For all I know the guy could have been feeding me a line of crap about the whole thing, all I know is that I haven't seen this kit on any other Maxima I've seen yet.

Welcome dude! DOHC, 24 valves, 3000 V-6? Umm, I thought that was..never mind. lets see this thing. Green washer thingys huh? Check rice in at the door. OK just kidding, but is your car a 5-spd? That would tell alot. Good luck with the tranny, you'll need it. And also with your VTC's, injectors, motor mounts...you'll find out soon enough. How many miles on this bad boy? Feel free to tap into the battery, just be sure everything is grounded properly and fused on the hot side with the right size fuse. Best to put the fuse as close to the battery as possible (usually within 18 inches), that way if a short occur in the power lead, the fuse will hopefully be on the battery side of the short, that way current doesn't just pump throught the hot lead and start an inferno. If you have a main power wire running to a fuse box, it can't hurt to have an extra fuse in that line close to the battery. Look forward to seeing the new addition to the org. Later.
Yeah I figured as much and to be honst I don't blame any of you. I mean some jag off shows up saying he has something so rare that no one has ever seen and he doesn't have anything to back it up. Come on I'd trash on him too. I will have shots of the car as soon as it has paint I simply have no desire to show it off till its in a condition that I can be proud of. A black car with pink body puddy spots all over it isn't exactly photogenic. Have a little pacience and a little faith due to the fact that we're doing five body work projects at the same time it may take a week and a half to two weeks.

no biggie, post the pics? we dont care we just wanna see if all this stuff is true, (not that your lying but it sounds like the seller told you a whole load of BS) btw how much did you pay for this car?
the engine, probably the stock VE engine. you may think its different because youve probably only seen the VG engine in a max. the VE came in all 92-94 SE's
the kit? probably just a stillen kit or some other kit.
please post pics

I shot some pix today with a friend's digital camera I should get them sent to me tonight or tomorrow and I'll go ahead and set 'em up. The reason I say it's different is because it has a pannel that is fixed to the back doors just below the "ding saver" trim. It has a protruding curve that leads down to the kit itself. I don't know if this does any good but I'll have the pix up soon.
As far as the engine goes I saw pix of it on this site so I guess the guy didn't know what he was talking about but he maintains that it was "tweaked". Like I said before I'm not really familiar with engines. So I'm a sucker when it comes to that.
N34JZ, The guy wanted $2,000 for it. My father (who owns a body shop) said he didn't pay any more than $500 for it. The reason he said that is because he buys wrecked cars and restores them, so he tends to buy 'em low. I told the seller I would give $500 for it. He threw a fit about that but two weeks later he came back and said he'd take it. Before I could pay him his oldest son came over with the 10 disc CD chainger and a few other things that went with it. Now get a load of this, the kid's wife fell in love with my sectional couch (That I HATE) soon we made the trade. That's right I traded a two year old couch that has given me nothing but trouble for a '92 Nissan Maxima!!!!!

er, wait...how much did you have to lay out to fix it up??
New Tranny, windshield, passanger side corner light, passanger side tail light, leather dye (for the seats),fog lamps, battery, the paint and puddy won't cost me a dime. I'm looking at under a grand to get evertyhing back to good working order.
and the guy told you this was a "concept car" right.....

If you get all that fo runder a grand you're da man. I assume you ae doing the work yourself?? Tranny alone will cost you around $500..and that's a good price on a used tranny in unknown condition. Windshield aint so cheap either.
