HeLp CHeeZer out... tranny q's, exaust q's long and booring dont read!
ok for about 4 months now i thought i was having tranny problems, (now im not sure if i am)
-I get in the car at a cold start up and it would not shift into the 3rd gear, after about 3-5 min of driving it would start sifting fine, so i just always let the car warm up for a long time befor i drove it.. (like 7-10 min,) I did the "self diagnostics for auto transmissions" and everything came back OK.
-after the car starts shifting properly there is times when i will slow down (not to a stop) and the car will not down shift, as soon as i press the gas i feel the car !trying! to move for a split sec. then it down shifts it self and takes off. but other then that, each shift is smooth..
- im thinking could my cat converter be shot/ or i have a bad exaust leak? would this cause the hesitation problem??
-plz tell me what u guys think, i have had alot of pplz comments saying ""REBUILD"" ok i relize that but i dont have the money now...., what do yo think i should do/try?

I assume you checked fluid level and condition right? Shifting probs would have nothing to do with your cat. Jammed up cats cause major power loss, that's about it in my experience. I had this happen to me. If your not getting shifts, it's all in the trans ro some ralted part. How many miles on it? have you done a flush? IF not, service the thing first, flush, filter etc. Then give it a go.

-i know that its the tranny that is giving the "not shifting into 3rd prob." but what about the hesitation ... could a bad cat do that?.. i always let my car warm up.. (every morning for about 4 months) ppl said that could kill a cat. is this true?
I don't know about letting a car warm up killing the cat. Over rich conditions kill the cat. At cold fast idle it is rich, but if it is cold, it's going to fast idle no matter what. That hesitation soounds to me to be tranny related as well. It's probably your tranny acting all confused since it's sarting in a higher gear, then downshifting and taking off. If you had success with flushes, you could try it again, but I know that's not cheap, and 4 flushes at 75 bucks each is already 300 bucks. Is it slipping? If not, that's a good thing. A good tranny shop can usually diagnose a shifting problem down to a faulty part..all kinds of little parts and vaccuum operated devices that could cause shifting problems. That would be great for you. I'd bring it in to a reputable place and have them give you a diagnosis. Good luck dude.

.. i still think its a busted cat. im just going to have to buy a test pipe to "test" it out..
-shifter solonoides!!!!(i know my tranny is Fuked up) shouldn't they come up on the self diognostic?>
Re: Re: AAAAAAA..... *** Jay Z
You've been having transmission problems for a while, and now that the transmission isn't downshifting properly, you suspect it's the catalytic converter? How about the transmission itself? But in any event, exhaust leaks or a performance exhaust system does affect the way the automatic transmission downshifts, this has been my experience in my stanza (with a full exhaust) and also the maxima with an exaust leak (a big one). A bad catalytic converter will sometimes have a rotten egg smell to it. If your converter is blocked up with excess carbon then you can take it and have it removed and cleaned with some liquid i dunno about. If you can't hear an exahust leak, then you probably don't have one or it's not one signifigant enough to affect the downshifting of the transmission. Letting the car warm up in the morning won't harm your catalytic converter.

--but a hesitation when i slow down then try to speed back up (it only happends for a split second), when you stand outside the drivers side door you can feel a lot of heat comming from under the car, a light smell of fuel/exaust and, the exuast is a little black.. thats Y i think somthing "exaust"causing the slight hesitation.
-did any one ever have a bad cat?
Re: Re: Re: Re: AAAAAAA..... *** Jay Z
I really don't think anything is wrong...the no 3rd gear during the warm-up period is normal, autos don't downshift instantaneously like we'd love them too either, so I think you're just imagining things...remember you drive a 12 year old AUTOMATIC!

yes, on very cold starts the tranny locks the tranny in 3rd gear(aka "safe mode") until sufficiently warm.

-but i wonder how much longer will my tranny last?.. i hope a year, but i know its going to fall off my car tomorrow.
