? about a VG30L engine.

Does anyone know if a VG30L engine will fit into an 89 Maxima? I ran across a pretty good deal today on this engine. A mechanic that is working on my truck has it sitting on a crate in his shop. He ordered it from Japan for a customer with an 87-88 Maxima, but now the customer doesn't need it. He said it came out of a right-hand drive vehicle(not sure what exactly), but everything seems to match the VG30E that is in my car now. It has a little over 40k miles on it and he's asking $900 for it.

Question #1: Will this engine fit in my Maxima.

Question #2: Does it sound like a good deal.

Thanks,
Kevin

even for 40k miles I think $900 is high...you can get a fresh rebuild for around the same price!

VG30L??? are you sure the "E" isn't just faded out into an "L"??

I would personally stay with a 3rd gen Max VG30E. The z31 guys pull the heads off Max engines to use in their Zs because they flow better.

the engine WOULD fit, but it would be easier/better/cheaper to buy a salvage Max engine and rebuild it, then swap engines out of your car.

The ticket on it said VG30L. I also found that designation on a couple of websites. One of them list it for the 84-86 300ZXs and this one lists it for the 88-89 300ZXs.

So do you think it would make more sense to rebuild the engine I have now or maybe try to find an engine out of 92-94 Maxima?

yeah it sure does say "L"...dunno about that though anyways it is quite possible to find a 50-60k used VG motor for $5-600, even better I've seen completely rebuilt VG motors advertised for $850

Thanks for all the info everyone. I think I will keep my $900(that I didn't have anyway) and wait for a better deal on a newer engine.
