My max is on life support

Oh noooooooooo!! Boo Hoo !!! The mechanic called me and said that I should not put anymore money into my whip. With 187,800 miles on it, it's just too old to mess with anymore. They still cant find what is making the car to vibrate so much. Also, one of the injectors that we installed is bad. He said you can see it arching. Also, this is leetting gas into the cylinder. One of my tires is bad and needs to be replaced. Rear main seal busted, AGAIN. And water leaking from somewhere near the rear of the engine. I really thought I would be keeping my car for a long time. But looks like I will have to let it go.

Do you think I could get more by parting it out. Or selling it straight out just like it is?

Sidney,

With all the money you've put into your Max, you'd probably be better off parting it off. I hate even THINKING that (especially since it was YOUR car that got me started modding mine....).

It's highly doubtful that you'd find anyone that would buy the car as-is for what you may deem "fair market value".

Another option would be to just get a complete overhaul, bro. Yeah, that'd cost a pretty penny. Especially depending on where you get it done. But if you REALLY want to keep your Max, that might be an option you might wanna explore.

With higher mileage engines you can find excessive crankcase blowby causing idle to be very rough. If you open the oil filler cap and you notice the idle smoothen out then you've found the problem.
If one tire is bad you have to buy two, or they'll wear unevenly.

If you sell the car like it is to someone capable of fixing the few problems it has that would be good, but most people won't be able to do that kind of work, so parting it out would be best.

why not buy a JDM engine for around 1300, youll get alot more years out of your ride. I dont have any engine problems now, but with 188k it will be nice to drop a new engine in with 30k. Ive done a bit of research on the companies selling the engines so if your interested pm me

It could be your piston rings are worn which is causing the excessive blow by. This will cause you to burn oil also. Best thing to if you have these symptoms is to have the compression checked.

If your compression is good then it could be that your car uses alot of fuel, then your problem could be the excessive gasoline is depleting the tiny layer of oil on the cylinder walls, without that tiny layer of oil there, your piston rings won't be able to seal as well, and will allow exhaust to blow by.

Man, that sucks. I know what you're going through. I'm going through the same thing right now. I am going to keep my car for now, though, and fix it some day soon. In the meantime I have to get a new ride...

Hate to say it but you're best bet to get any return on your investment is to part out. It's best to not get too attached to a car, anyway, but I know how that feels. Good luck.

Oh yeah, and let me know if you part out so I can be a vulture too

i have a bumpy idle sometimes. it doenst always shake (even when it does, it isnt that bad, just annoying). but when i first start it after its been sitting, it'll be fine, then as soon as i tap the gas if its been sitting for longer than 30 seconds, it'll puff out blue smoke. usually it goes away after 2 good puffs and thats all. any ideas?

It's hard to speculate without knowing much about the cars condition. Best thing to do would be to have a compression test done to see whats up. Blue smoke i believe could be oil, but in this cold weather now its usual for cars to smoke, just the same way you blow smoke out your mouth in the cold.

i'm not asking if its oil smoke, i know it is. its very different from the white steam that usually comes out when its cold, its very blue in color. could this possibly be a faulty PCV valve? if it were piston rings or valve seals, it would smoke all the time, correct?

That's it. It's for sale. Straight out, no parting. No way I would get at least $2000.00 parting it out. If interested, email me swallace@sc.rr.com. I want $2000.00(firm). Also have it listed in the classifieds section.
