Dual pipes arent stock on any 3rd gen, right? I just saw a third gen at the post office and it had dual pipes. I never see modded max's here in Maine, i was shocked!

the pipes

are you tlaking abotu dual exhaust on each side of the car? If so, no it was not stock. If just two pipes comming off the muffler right next to each other, it's possible. I'd have to see it to know for sure.

I had duals, they're easy to run. The only question is whether they were "true" (ran all the way from front to rear) or like mine (split toward the back)? I got rid of the second pipe because there was not enough restriction. I still need to add some restriction, a Flowmaster 80 or something a little more restricting?

Hey, if you want some restriction w/out tons of "bee-in-a-can" sound, try a Flowmaster 60 Series muffler. It's made for 6 and 4 cyl cars and it sounds really tight. Whenever you start out the car will have a bassy rumble up to 2500 RPM then it tapers off as they build up. If you go to their web site, then you can read all about it. It's not a dual pipe, but it's really good. I had it on my 93 SE and I loved it! It's a 2 chamber and has no fiberglass in there to muffle the sound, but instead it has some special technology called "delta technology" which somehow divides the sound waves inside the muffler then sends them crashing into each other to cancel them out. At highway speeds, it's actually more quiet than stock, but when your going 45 and under, you get a nice bassy rumble which isn't too loud like those stupid Honda's that you hear a mile away.
I like the look of the duals on the Max's, but I don't like the noise that you have to endure in the car. I think that once my muffler on my new max goes, I'll buy another Flowmaster 60 series; I just really liked the thing.

There's a difference between dual pipes and dual tips.

Dual pipes are not stock. No maxima's came with tips on both sides of the car. Single Tip on passenger side for GXE, Dual tip on passenger side for SE.

How are glasspacks on restriction? lol
I put a glasspack on and i like it. It's abit loud but sounds good and low rumble. Only time it sounds kind of funny is when i redline it and when the tranny shifts it sounds like it winds up again and kind of dies then comes back when it shifts into gear.

One mod I always thought would look tight on a Maxima is dual exhaust with ea. muffler haveing dual tips (like a 300ZX). That would look bad *** on a Maxima!
