I am planning to buy this muffler for my Maxima (its a 1990 3rd Gen). Its a Genie Turbo 3 inch Stainless steel muffler. Just wondering if it will fix my car and also too loud (the cops will pull me over if its too loud down here - stupid australian cops).

Its a straight throug muffler with a 3' inlet and 3' tip. The pipe goes thru in a straight line on an angle

If i do get this, how could I attach it to my car.

Could you please lend me some advice.

man, that muffler looks like something I had on my old Nova 350.... It may be a big PITA to fit in your max...

 

you'll need a major piping reducer between the exhaust inlet and the end of OEM catback piping ...the 3" inlet is way too big to fit the stock Max pipe. you will need to weld the muffler on.

 

Is it worth it to put it in though?

I want it to be a modular setup (ie if i want to replace the stock y-pipe with an aftermarket WSP one, the i just bolt it on).

So what your saying that its too long. hmm... I am now a bit hesistant to purchase it but keep your input flowing on this issue though.

 

IMO unless its very cheap I'd let it go. You'll only need 2.5" piping for the whole exhaust so a new 2.5" inlet/3" outlet muffler may be more suitable and easier to work with. Droopy tips look kinda old-school on a 3rd Gen and apart from more sound it'll make little difference to performance until the rest is done.

 

What we're saying is that the pipe's too big. You have to adapt the Max's 2.5" pipe to the 3" pipe on the muffler.

 

Any straight through muffler will sound like a fart can. No good, I'd pass, it will be loud as hell. no point, won't give you any real power.

 

OEM isn't 2.5" either, I think its like 2" or 2.25" a 2.5" to 3" adapter is easy, but 2" to 3" is kinda ridiculous.

 

i wouldn't necessarily say it will sound like a fart can. i have a magnaflow ss straight through muffler on my '90 gxe, the exhaust is totally stock except for the magnaflow. it sounds very nice in my opinion, everyone who's heard it says it has alot of bass to it. i can't deny the fact its loud as hell though, even with the rest of the exhaust stock! no noticable gain in power either. just wanted to comment on the sound

 

Yep, I think at the inlet of the stock muffler it goes down even less than 2", nasty. If he needs it all sectioned and wants to do the muffler first then have the new muffler welded to 2.5" pipe and flanged. Then he can bolt-on a 2.5" B-pipe, cat and Y-Pipe in time.

I'd be working the from the other end first though, starting with the Y, or headers.

 

I'll probably pass this muffler up... sounds like too much work (ie have to get a 2.5 -> 3 for the inlet. Some people are saying that I'm going to lose some power on this since its kinda too big. Which to me is a big no no.

I'll probably shop around still and stuff still for a muffler (although I'd like a dual tip at the end not a single).

So is the inlet supposed to be 2.5 or 2??
