2-3 cutloose 89 maxima
2-3 cutloose 89 maxima
I am having a 2-3 cutloose problem on my 89 Maxima. I removed the outer 2-4 accumulator spring to help the 1-2 shift and drilled the two holes in the plate to the recommended size by ATSG. The 1-2 shift and 3-4 shifts and all downshifts are fine. Just when you think the trans should shift from 2nd to 3rd, 2nd falls out and 3rd comes in, but very delayed and get some rpm increase before 3rd actually applies. It doesnt seem like a slip, but more of what they call "cutloose". Has anyone had this problem or do you know anything to try? All help is greatly appreciated.

No I haven't replaced clutchs yet. The thing had planetary 6,000 miles ago. I replaced planetaries all seals. All clutch lining were excellent and cearances were within tolerances. I read in some of ATSG's stuff that the line pressure solenoid is usually the culprit of 2-3 cutloose. I am going to try to put a gauge on it tomorrow and go from there. What do you think? Thanks for your reply.

Especially one's that have been f'd with. Knowing the fragile nature of 3rd gen auto's, I give you props for being brave enough to try anything on it!
