Heat Shield Y Pipe Rattle
Heat Shield Y Pipe Rattle
I performed a search concerning this before asking this with inconclusive results. My son's '91 Maxima has just developed an obscene rattle that comes right from the Y pipe heat shield area. This should be the simplest thing in the world, except I spent a LOT of time under the car and the shield seems to have nothing to do with it. It noise to be coming from INSIDE the pipe area. Sometimes it goes away entirely and does seem to be altered sometimes by various RPM levels. This does not make much sense to me, so I implore you experts out there to hopeful explain what it could be and what I might do to correct it. Any insight is greatly appreciated!!!

low rpms.....i have heard of this happening after installing a new y-pipe...some people have put some sort of padding between the y-pipe and the top shield. Thats as far as I've heard concerning rattling by the shield. Hope that helps.
