What is the best way to remove a GOOD exhaust manifold stud?
What is the best way to remove a GOOD exhaust manifold stud?
Since Chilton's sucks...
What is the best way to remove the GOOD (non-broken) exhaust manifold studs on the front side of the engine? Vicegrips?
I really dont want another broken stud if it can be prevented. Please help. I am replacing them all. Thanks!

slide two nuts over the threaded part.
use two box wrenches..back out the 1st one while holding the 2nd one. they will jam together and if it's possible it'll come out in one piece.
or if the threads are shot to sheeeit..get a stud remover...kinda clumsy tool but it might do the trick.

...and installing the new studs?

I just some vice grips. But I also had a stud remover. It's a little large but works well w/o chewing up the stud. They aren't very tight.

Any idea on the Torque figures of the new studs going into the head?
Chiltons lists the nut at 13-16, I would imagine the new stud to be around that, maybe a little more.

Cool thanks. I am assuming that the "extra nut" trick would work for the install of the new studs? True?
