Fuel filler tube recall
Fuel filler tube recall
I just found out about the fuel filler tube recall. I called Nissan and Im dropping my car off at a dealership on monday. But doing searches all I have found is people talking about how they have been screwed. Is there anyone who has had this recall done and has had a good experience. How long did it take. I have rust in both wheel wells and a couple of holes about the size of a fist. Will they repair all of this.

You should also check the recall carefully, as it is not applicable in all states.

I dropped my car off today. The dealer called me today at about five to tell me that he had to take pictures of my car and send them to Nissan. Im not really sure what that means though. I dont know if that means that they are going to complete the work but have to send the pictures to Nissan or if they have to get verification from Nissan for the final decision on whether the work gets done or not.
Any help or imput would be greatly appreciated.

Be polite yet firm with them if they give you any crap. THEY created this problem. In my opinion, you should have got a free loaner car too.

I gave up after so long, because they had my insurance company getting involved and lawyers and wanted to total the car out and give me $2300 for it after I had already put $12K into it and my insurance company found out then that the car wasn't even street legal and dropped me and now my insurance (with one speeding ticket on my record and one accident not-at-fault) is $215/month. I had to pick and choose my battles...

Offering you $2300 is not dropping the case. You decided to not take it. (A wise move for a car with $12K in mods)

So i'll call him tomorrow when I get out of class. I swear I hope they dont ask to buy the car from me if they do does anyone know how much I should expect of course it wont be enough to buy another one.
Recall
I have a 93 SE 5sp and mine was done in 96. I called Nissan two days ago after reading the post and called the original owner, (he lives a few blocks from me) He said it was done with no problem. Nissan confirmed it was done as well. I am sure there are those that have had a successful time with this recall, however they may not be a part of this board.
I wish everyone else success with their effort.
Happy Holidays,

my2ndmax, good luck and keep us posted. Your car is an 89, right? It will be interesting to see how this is handled by Nissan...
recall
Maybe, maybe not. I would suggest that anyone with this issue go for it. Be the car the car 3yrs or 10 yrs, If someone wants to give you a hard time they will. Living in New York, bringing something you bought after SEVEN day people give you a hard time.
I wish everyone the best of luck trying.

I understand that my car is only an 89 Maxima and you guys dont care about it anymore. But as a result of the fuel filler recall my car has substained rust and corosion in my wheel wells that has caused exhaust fumes to get into the cabin. It has not passed safety inspection because of this and is a hazard to my health and the health of my passengers. I called the 800 number about the recall and have dropped my car off at the dealership but had to pick it up a week later because they had not gotten a response from Nissan and my car was just sitting there. Could someone please let me know whats going on I need to get this problem fixed so that my car can pass inspection and I can be able to drive without any hazard to me or my passengers. Thank You.
Lets see if they respond?

Its all about where you live
Sounds to me that you guys live in the wrong states. Out west we value our cars and don't put salt on our roads, at least in most areas. Then again the sun shines more often out here and the weather is a lot more agreeable. You pay for where you live. One time I lived in Michigan for half a year and I was always surprised to see a car not more then a couple of years old would have its doors eatin away by rust.
Don't take this the wrong way but this problem isn't nessiccarly Nissan's fault since they didn't put the salt on the roads. Just about any car in that type of environment is going to rust eventually no matter how hard you try to proof the car. I would almost gurantee that there is plenty of rust elsewhere if you look for it. The reason why Nissan had to deal with this is because of the fuel tank and the safety issues. This isn't really a design flaw so much as coincidences that just added up to create the problem.\
Good luck on getting the car fixed but I would have to agree with the others that they will probably offer you some money to walk away from it. I would probably take the money and look for another max that is in better condidtion and has less miles. Sure you might have to put some of your own money into getting another car but if you shop around you might find something you like.

I had this recall done at least five years ago. In my opinion it is not so much the filler tube as the seat belt restraint which is weakened by the rust and the safety issue that this brings forth. Imagine an accident where the person, who was wearing their seatbelt, was killed or severely injured because the belt tether ripped out of the wheel well. I've had this area all apart on mine and it seems under-designed if you ask me. Nissan is covering their butt and you should push this point when you are able, either through your dealer or through Nissan themselves. There is no excuse why they can't design a seat belt system that maintains it integrity, rust or no rust. As well, they should (as they did with my '89) inspect the other side to see the condition of the seat belt restraint. In my case they they replaced both wheel wells as well as painted both quarter panels. Good Luck!!

I have a 91 se. There is a hole in my trunk and my seatbelt has broken off the mount. I had nissan run my VIN. It came up as not needing the recall. He said it may have already been done. I am geussing that they fixed just the fuel filler and then checked off my car. I bought it used so I don't know. Here is a little kick though. When I told the service desk he asked if I had my vin so I went to my car to get it and my girl friend over heard them saying "what the **** does he want it is a 12 year old car. what does he expect." Boy was I ****ed. Just wondering if it is still recallable if the trunk rust out or should I fix it my self?

Ok I got tired of Nissan giving me the f***ing runaround so I just dropped my car off at a body shop yesterday. It will cost 600.00 to do all of the welding that is need. What are the chances of getting Nissan to reimburse me ????

Zero Percent
So does this mean that because my car is registered in North Carolina that I am ineligible? Where can I find this original message? My tube has a leak anyway. No evidence of corrosion though.

The recall was only for the states listed. Sorry but I dont think North Carolina is one of them. What you may be able to do though is call Nissan and check your VIN maybe the car was originally owned in one of the states that are eligible. Other than that Im not sure what else you can do.
recall
I have a 91 se. It has a hole in the rear drivers side. I called nissan and reserched th vin. the recall was done in 96 but now there is the rust hole. They wont fix it due to the recall already having been done. I have been fighting with them for months. The rust hole made the seat belt break so I am trying to get them on the lifetime warranty on the seat belts. They gave a load about how the trunk is not part of the seatbelt system but I have talked to some one else and he seems to be helping. He wants me to take it to a dealer and get astement. where I hope to get them is that the warranty says "labor and parts free of charge for seatbelts and related components". I belive the trunk "the mount for the seat belt!" would be a realted component. I'll keep ya posted!!

You're right, y-pipe, cat-back, reprogrammed ECU, and Zex nitrous won't do a thing to make your car any faster. Heavy a$$ gawty chrome rims, however.... those must give you an extra second in the quarter, right!??
Why don't you stick to the subject of the thread, fool. The discussion is about fuel filler stem recalls. If you want to b!tch about my car, do it on my site. There's a guestbook for that sort of thing.
