Dyno Comparison for a 3rd Gen VE30DE
Okay, you 3rd Gen guys have convinced me to do one of my dyno comparions for the VE30DE vs the 4th Gen VQ. Don't want y'all to feel left out, and the 3rd Gen is the car that originally made me a car freak to begin with :D
I have plenty of VQ30DE stock dyno's, so all I need is a good baseline VE30DE 5spd dyno. I have Lordrandall's from the dyno forum, but I'm told this was a lower than normal dyno? I'm not looking for the best ever factory freak dyno because I try to keep the playing field as level as possible. So all I need is a dyno on a VE that best represents all of them (an average dyno, not a crappy one or a factory freak). As soon as I can get this dyno I'll fire up Excel :) |
I cant wait, I will try and find some for you also.
|
I'm looking too, maybe Brian H dynoed his stock by some chance?
|
I tried a few Google searches but came up with nothing. The only thing I found was...
Evan's Maxima SE - Upgrades/Intake-Exhaust http://www.rit.edu/~ehy0121/Upgrades/upgrademails.html Unfortunately it's an EDU address and the guy probably graduated. You can checkout the cached content here, but there doesn't seem to be any dyno charts. http://216.239.51.100/search?q=cache...hl=en&ie=UTF-8 |
just use Randys....

Re: Dyno Comparison for a 3rd Gen VE30DE
Use Randy's dyno it is a bone stock VE 5spd dyno. His dyno is the same as other VQ 5spd stock dynos.

awwwww....what about for us slow a$$ auto guys??? eric93se had a recent dyno :D
|
163hp and 167tq seems right in line with a 190/190 rating at the flywheel.
|
My top end might have suffered a little due to a non working Power Valve, but I'd like to see it anyhow.
:D |
yeah, just do it. However and no functioning power valve will make the top end suffer cause it is not activating the variable intake...but lets see this mess.

here's mine:

didn't mean to keep you guys hanging. hehe
I ran out of time over the weekend and now my hosting site is FUBAR so I'm sorta stuck until they fix it. :slant: In the meantime I'll just spit out some oral results... Horsepower Idle-3500rpm: the VQ has about a 5-10whp advantage over a VE 3500-5600rpm: The VQ and VE are about dead even. 5600rpm+: The VE has a good 15 whp advantage over a VQ!! Horsepower-to-Weight Idle-5600rpm: 3rd Gen gets 0wNed (loses by ~5 fwhp/ton average) Above 5600rpm: 3rd Gen will pull (advantage by about ~5 fwhp/ton average) Overall the 4th Gen's are the faster cars (thanks to the extra torque and the lighter weight), but on a long and flat-out highway race, a 3rd Gen VE will in fact pull on a VQ thanks to the variable runners and VTC's, assuming they're all still working :shiner: hehe, just ribbin you guys a little, but in all seriousness, I was really impressed by the VE engine. It really did surprise me. On the To-Do list is a full Gen3 vs Gen4 vs Gen5(3.0) dyno shootout. What it's going to show is that a VE 5spd will hang right in there with the VQ 3.0's and people will learn that just because it's old(er), doesn't mean it's slow  |
Thanks for confirming the facts!

15.3 in an auto is surprising. This is great news. Even if the VQ's say they will put a MEVI on, it will make them loose low end, which would make it even with the VE on the low and mid, but they gain like 2-3hp up top which makes the VE about 12hp up top still, so for $600 they make it worse? VTC's are awesome, knock the tickin, but the VE will still dish out an *** whoopin:D

With the MEVI VQ, power peaks around 5000, but then stays relatively flat and even gains some all the way up to redline. A picture is worth a thousand words, which is now what I'm having to type, but my stupid host still isn't up yet! |

It was done, stock vs. stock. Now I would like to see how the autos compare, I think the VQ would get the nudge on that. I wonder what Randy would of gotten if his Power Valve was working right.

FYI... I've beat every VQ I've raced, auto or stick... except Dave B's, but it doesn't count since he's got about a zillion mods on it. :)
|
That is good to hear, what do you say about that VQ boys? Matt make sure you post that when he posts the comparo's on the general forum...they wont beleive you;)
|
Does Matt have a factory freak that doesn't feel the effects of old age? My car has about as many miles as his, and my car is slow sometimes... darn sensors

You must take out Dave B, so he will respect.:)

my host finally got their crap together. pics will be up tonight :)

Originally posted by pezking4 Yeah, I was in Ladeesman's GLE earlier today when we were test driving it after the axle replacement, and that thing really moves for an auto. He's an auto with intake, test pipe, b pipe, and muffler. And I'm a stock 5 speed with a slipping clutch  I counted to three and then did my downshift to make it fair, and he turned off overdrive to lock out 4th gear and already be in 3rd when we started. I began to walk away from him slowly just like I said would happen. |
please define slow! how many car? what mph? :)
|
With those mods, Ladeesman has yet broke into the 15's. I think his best is around a 16.05. So, maybe something is wrong with his car. I know he's not running up to par.

As a sort of response to Pezking's post I had an encounter with a 4th gen on the highway (I'm not sure if it was auto or not) the other night on I35 in Rockwall, Tx. He had custommaxima.com stickers on his car (wonder if he's on the forums?) and sounded like he had an intake at least.
Well he kept passing me and flooring it and laughing as he passed so I figured I'd go. We went from about 75mph...by the end of third I had half a car on him then put a full car on him halfway through 4th and I ran out of room. I had 2 passengers with me. I've raced 3 or 4 VQ's with the auto. They at the very least had intake/exhaust and I beat all of them. Never raced one from a complete stop though, which, they probably would've been closer then. |
DYNO COMPARISON IMAGES
Okay...they're finally up. Again, sorry for the delay, my host was all FUBAR last week. So I'll just post them up and spare all the commentary.
Here are the raw dyno charts compared directly to each other, taken directly off of the chassis dyno charts... http://mywebpages.comcast.net/stevte...G3VE_HP_MD.jpg http://mywebpages.comcast.net/stevte...G3VE_TQ_MD.jpg |
Now here are the Power to Weight ratio charts. VQ basically owns below 5600rpm. Above that a VQ wheezes, but the VE is still pulling thanks to the variable runners and VTC's.
