weight differences

ok, every car place i see that lists the weights of the 3rd gens always have the gxe weighing in a about 3080 pounds and the se weighing about 3150. is this correct? if so, where the heck does the extra weight come from? i would think it would be the oppposite since the se can have the manual which i'm for sure is lighter than the auto. and then that big heavy metal thing with unknown purposes are also in the gxe's.

must be the spoiler and the bose

i have no clue where difference comes from?

does weight include everything on the car once it leaves the factory?
if so the engine block could weigh more? the wheels?

once again, i have no clue

Re: weight differences

maybe from the engine and options? The VE no doubt weighs more than a VG, also I think some GXE's come with cloth seats and no sunroof. I believe Mykizm's 5spd gxe weighed in at 3000lbs with full interior, while I believe it was pearl93gxe weighed 3060lbs in his auto.

Its behind the back seat, its a heavy steel cylinder used to add weight to the rear axle.

SEARCH for the many threads involving this, it's quite amusing and worth the effort!

The only thing adding weight to the SEs that I can think of is the sunroof and maybe the spoiler (+5 pounds maybe?), but then the GXEs have power seats (at least some of them do) and a slushbox... AND that stuped sonar suspension crap. Where are you getting this info, Mark?

Weight difernces

Yeah the weight can come from a lot of stuff, even litle things but they all add up. It just depends on the car and what options it has. I dont know how much my car weighed I never got it done. I wish I did.

Sunroof
ABS
Drums-rotors
spoiler
AC
leather-cloth
DOHC-SOHC
Auto-5-speed
airbags
electronic suspension
muffler
Mods
Stereo system (BOSE amps)
keyless entry
Trailer hitch
cup holders
4DSC sticker J/K

the differences i can think of in my two cars:
GXE:
power seats
auto tranny
thing in trunk
keypad stuff
leather
possible tranny cooler but i can't remember
more oil in auto tranny

SE:
wider wheels
wing
mudflaps (ha... yeah right)
abs
probably more shift linkage
different motor mounts (probably no difference)
foglights

other than that i don't think there was any more differences. both of my cars had the bose stuff and everything else was the same that i can think of. i'll try getting them weighed sometime.

How would you go about weighing your car? I've always wondered about that...

Getting weighed

I know they weigh some cars at the track but thats for the SCCA rally adn big import events and then you can go down to a scrap yard that weighs trucks for to calculate monay due to people, and you may be able to try a weigh station on the highways.

weigh stations are not a good idea, wouldn't be as acurate. Same with a scrap yard, they usually round to the nearest 100 lbs. The scales at the track are great but the track is closed until April .

my friend is neighbors with JB, the owner of JB Salvage down here in bloomington. I might be able to get my car weighed there but like you said, it wouldn't be very accurate since they round. i can get a close estimate though.

It's all about what options your car came with. I have dual power seats on my SE.
