Power/Comfort Button

Hey guys,
I have a '93 S that has a Power/Comfort button in front of the gear shift. Just wanted to know if that really does anything to your car's performance? I usually have it on power, but sumone told me awhile ago that it really doesn't do much as far as power goes. Want to see if anybody else uses this button too. & yes, it came standard on my car

Yup we all do. I think that search is the best way to get the answer.

edit: your car is lowered and you still don't know what that button does?

yes i leave mine on power too. in power it just makes the tranny shift at a higher RPM. in comfort it shifts sooner. but it doesn't make a difference of u go WOT. do a quick search on this topic...i think it came up like last few weeks.

It doesn't do anything for performance, just adjusts the shift points during normal driving. At WOT, it does nothing

hmmm, you sure about that...I would think any time you have a longer/taller 1st gear you will definently beat out a car that shifts earlier... in P mode I can redline 1st without the computer getting "confused" as opposed to A/T mode where shifting can occur in the 4k range even when floored...

maybe its just me but it seems that sometimes when not in "P" mode the computer still shifts early. still I think having a taller first gear is definently advantageous over a car with equal power that has a shorter one

I notice i get off the line fastest when i turn it off then put it on when i hit 30 mph. When i start from stop and i have it in power it takes way to long to get to about 2700 before the high end power starts to kick in mostly noticeable after y pipe inst.

it doesn't matter at WOT because at WOT, the computer automatically changes to power mode.

just FYI.

mine broke

Not to threadjack...
but my power/comfort switch broke.

Anyone have a spare lying around?
How much do you think the local Nissan dealer would charge for it?
how difficult will it be to re-install?

I believe its just the rocker switch that broke off... like one of the arms snapped or something. I can just pull it out of the little socket area now, and it rocks back and forth but won't select P or C.

Thanks!

Same here...I thought it was bad to change it while driving.

Also, I wouldn't expect the button to be more than $7 after shipping. $2 for the part, and $5 for shipping would be my guess at a Nissan Dealership.

Are you at WOT (or somewhat near) when the power light comes on?

In my dad's Subaru, the power light will come on during "spirited" driving...(if that's possible in a Legacy Wagon) - I have no idea if this is the same type of thing in a Max. Anyone with an AT?
