removing b-pipe and muffler?

sorry if this question is stupid but is there any purpose to the bpipe and muffler other than to make it quieter? if one would just unbolt the bpipe would there be a power gain and what would it sound like?

Dont take it off. You would have the loudest, most annoyingly loud car EVER. For the sake of humanity, just leave it on.
