Power Switch Not working

i recently installed a new stereo system in my 89 maxima. i had the power/comfort switch unplugged during the process. when i plugged it back in and put everything back together, the power button no longer lights up when switched to power mode. the comfort button will still light up though in comfort mode. i unplugged again it blew in it and put it back together. it still doesnt work. strange. anybody know if its fixable?

(also does anyone know whether you have more power when you drive with overdrive on or off?!?)

If the power option light is just not lighting up...only the bulb must have gone...I had the same problem on my GXE...and all i had to do was replace the bulb....its really easy to access and change once you pull the switch out...

The bulbs mostly go when you re-connect the harness...the snap from the clip usually breaks the filament on the stock bulbs...I had to change 3 of my dash bulbs just because i wasnt careful enough while changing one bulb in the defogger switch...

hope this helps..

You can try this, put the "C" bulb in the "P" spot to determine if it's a bulb problem. If it is, then go to RadioShack and get these bulbs:

Minibulbs from RadioShack

Part #: "272 1092" 12v minilamps

Get these and you will be happy. They are like a buck.

I think I'll head to Radioshack myself, my power light was gone when I bought the car 3 weeks ago.

Also, you do have more power when driving with over drive off. Basicly overdrive is 4th gear, in our 4 speed automatic. When you turn overdrive off you, you turn off 4th gear (until you need it). Which allows you to get higher RPMS in 1st through 3rd.

Well thats my opinion on the power issue. I see that 5spd92se thinks otherwise. I've always heard it compared to downshifting epecially at higher speeds. Alot more responsive with overdrive off, if you ask me.

By "eliminating" a 4th gear (overdrive), you are not gaining any power. If the car goes to redline with or without O/D on, then how is that a power gain?

Now I might agree with the 3rd gear holding longer. On a lot of cars the transmission will want to shift too early, or before redline when floored in 3rd gear. By leaving no option for it to shift into a 4th gear, it will most likely just hit the limiter in 3rd. This may or may not be an advantage depending on the torque curve of the motor.

Understandable, I agree this does not add any power to the car, but as you said can allow for a longer 3rd gear. Which can or can't be an advantage. Nice explanation, I didn't mean to give the wrong idea. Good looking out.

I just hope everyone is careful testing out the 3rd gear with O/D off!
