PLZ help.......need help fast...interior light problem

ok before n-e-one say use the search....well i really need help fast with this problem i have with my 1993 Maxima auto.

here is the problem:

everything was ok until this night when all of a sudden the interior lights went out and when i hit the brakes, all the lights work....i thought it was just a fuse but i was wrong.

i asked my g/f 2 go outside the check if the lights outside were out 2 and she said yes but the headlights were still on. so when i stepped on the brakes all the light inside and outside went on.
so i drove home and checked all the fuses that i could find but they all r fine. i took apart the dash and all but didn't find no burnt wires. everything looks fine but the damn interior lights r off...and yes i turned the button 2 switch the lights on but nothing works..only when i step on the brakes.

can someone PLZ help me out or have n-e-ideas that i can try right now.....i really don't want 2 go2 the dealership in the morning.

this is what i have in my maxima right now maybe one of these maod could b the problem 2???

Indiglo Gauges-(color-blue/green) & a underbody neon kit

can this b a problem with the interior lights????

thanx 4 the help my fellow org memebers

datz some trippy ish.. it has to someting to do with your brakes. so check all lines connected to the brakes. i have a trippy problem too with my old 88. when i turn the headlights off the interior light come on. BTW wat was your last mod and when. cuz maybe it was the mod that caused this problem..

hey Torres,

U know i had a similar problem with my GXE!!

but i had NO mods whatsoever...when i used the brakes...all interior lights came on at night and at day! in addition to that...when i turned the switch to "on" for the lights, my rear driving lights were not working but my rear BRAKE lights were on all the time even if i didnt press the brakes! and in addition to that...the tail light 10amp fuse kept blowing out (thats why the tail lights were not working...everytime i changed it, the tail lights worked for 5 minutes and then the fuse went again...)

This just started happening all of a sudden in my case too..

The only link i saw was that i had a digital climate control in my car and the display had started to go dim those days...and all of a sudden one day the problem with the interior and exterior lighting was gone by itself (and the tail lamp fuse stopped blowing) BUT the climate control display started to die that day onwards until it would only come on when i would hit it!

i ended up resoddering the circuit board on the climate control later and then it was fixed too...that lighting problem never happened again!

i dont know if that helped or not but just thought i'd share it...i hope it just goes away in your case too

I would check the sockets on my taillights and make sure they are not melted inside.

my digi-climate control display goes dim all the time. i should re-solder it.

hey brian,

this is probably a stupid suggestion, but did you check the fillaments in your brakelight bulbs? maybe they're burned out. because they might be non-related to the interior light issue. because i;m pretty sure they run off a different harness/fuse.

Yeah Torres,
I took the climate control apart...but again...i'm not sure if you have the same problem with yours...
Going to the dealer with the CC probably wont be a good idea...they will try to sell you a new climate control unit for $1100 bucks!!
good luck with the fix!

NO u wont find anything VISIBLY wrong in the CC circuitry, i assume thats what u mean when u say u found nothing wrong...its just that some of sodder joints are split with very small fractures that u cant see without a flashlight or maybe even a magnifying glass...

Mostly, its one of the 3 transistors causing the problem....if u can take a pic of the circuit board and email to me i can tell which ones they are...but u will have to do a close examination of most resistors nonetheless...or just try to resodder everything.

and again....the CC might not even be related to the lighting problem...its just that in my case it was in some wierd way...all the best with that fix...and if u do end up going to the dealer...i hope they dont try to screw u too bad

hey drstillpatient

well i got around 2 find the problem i think.....i disconnect the gauges and the underbody neon kit and put in a new fuse....and 4 some reason and fuse doesn't burn out no more....so i guess the problem can only b 1 of the two light mods......goin' 2 check it out 2morrow and i'll post back up on which is the real problem.

thanx 2 everyone 4 the ideas and their help
