braking & tires

I wanted to know do tires have a great deal to do with braking, I know the brakes slow the tires down but does the time in which they slow down have anything to do with how much tread is on the tire?

think of it this way.... the tire is what actually connects the car to the road. the brakes are causing the wheels to try to stop spinning, and the friction of the tire on the ground is what makes the car actually stop... so if there's no friction between the tire and ground, you have no traction.. and therefore can't stop.

good tires are ESSENTIAL for good brakes. the big brake kit I've got doesn't do squat with cheap tires other than lock the brakes up. put good tires on it, and you'll slam your head into the windshield at 150 when I hit the brakes.
