need help re: transmission
need help re: transmission
94 maxima gxe, auto, with 125,000miles. I bought it with 115,000 miles and flushed the transmission then. No other work has been done on car.
One day, suddenly the car loses ability to reverse. I would shift lever to R and tried toggling it a little, still no ability to go in reverse. ALSO, that same day, with overdrive on(like I do always) and I could speed up and when it hit 30mph, and I step on gas, NO acceleration, just engine revving up but no actual speeding up. It all happened after I got off the interstate, I was cruising at about 65mph for 15minutes at least in cold weather. Right now, I cannot reverse, but I can still put it in DRIVE and drive normally WITHOUT the OVERDRIVE ON. If I have overdrive on, it doesn't seem to want to go into overdrive.
Now I read somewhere about the 3rd gen maximas having problems with solenoid that could prevent reversing. I don't know if this is original tranny, I would guess so. Anyone experienced this problem and know the culprit, please sure. many thanks.

Had a similar issue and it just turned out to be a $7 plastic grommet(sp)
go to the aamco website and print a cupon for a free inspection and take it there. it's a common problem on our cars according to the mechnic I spoke with. my car has been fine ever since (about 20K miles)
if it is something serious, get it checked out by one or two more shops just to get competing estimates.

interesting medic :)
Hey Medic, think you can pull up an old receipt and tell me the exact part name or #, maybe its purpose and its location please? I really hope that it's something other than my transmission. I rather have some information handy before I take it to aamco, so maybe I can ask them about it as well. That would be great of you if you could do that, many thanks.

sorry, I was out of town all week. I checked my records, but it's not going to help much. It's listed on the invoice as a shifter gromet for $6.95. No part number. It's a white plastic disc about the size of a quarter if I remember right.
