Info on Shift Kits

What exactly does a shift kit do? I have searched but have yet to find a clear cut explanation. I am about to order a tranny for my car, and the place I called said a shift kit was available for an extra charge. What is it, what does it do, and what is a reasonable price? Oh yeah, is it necessary?

Re: Info on Shift Kits

Search for "valve body", "valvebody", "shift kit", and "Maximum Tuning". It is most widely known as the "VB mod" or the "Valve Body mod".

A shift kit is a kit installed in your control valve body that raises the fluid pressure of your tranny when it shifts. This creates faster and firmer shifts which will decrease the amount of time the plates slip when a shift is made.

So, if you want your tranny shifting hard core, then call up Maximum Tuning and get one for about $350. Or some people up here will just tell you to unplug the drop down resistor to create hard shifts. But, I wouldn't recommend this.

Yes, listen to him. Search for a post by Matt93SE on drop down resistors. You can ruin your transmission in very short order.
