Link between tick and running bad
Link between tick and running bad
My 93se was running very poorly after it warmed up and the ticking started. I am very aware of what might be the causes after reading this forum, but what I didn't know is that they might be linked. My machanic said the knock sensor was picking up the ticking ,because it was so bad, and the computer thaught the motor was knocking and in turn retarded the timeing causing the motor to run poorly until it would eventually stall.
So I did the knock sensor bypass and the car ran smoothly even when the motor warmed up and began ticking. The next thing I did was swap the oil for synthetic oil and within 10 minutes the tick went away. I plugged the sensor back in and it still ran smoothly. It has only been a short time, but we'll see if it lasts.
At this point when I shut off the motor and restart it while its still warm the ticking starts for a short time and then goes away.
