Is the Radiator support important?
Is the Radiator support important?
I bought some E36 ZKW headlights that are BMW racing style, they are substantially larger than the ellipsoid or American spec lights and it looks like I would need to remove an 8" piece of the bar on either side of the radiator so they can reach proper deapth. The bar runs along either side and over the radiator and looks like it just keeps it from shifting.
Is this part integral? Can I fashion a replacement or just weld some new bars that will run behind the lights? I hope I can do something about it since I spent $300 on the lights already. They were in a Maxima previously and are identical to jdywer's setup. Link here:

I noticed that he cut and removed parts of the bar to make the lights fit and realized that I must also do this. I will accept any suggestion or comments you have.
Thanks,
-Ryan

Re: Is the Radiator support important?
If you have a performance shop (the kind that builds race cars---tubs and makes frames and such) make you some new braces to take the place of the part you cut you should be fine.
Dont skimp on this if you do it...take it to a shop and spend the money it takes to get it done right or if you have a collision it will be bad.
btw Stu also did the same thing that JDwyer did and cut that part out. I noticed it on some of the old pics of his car.
