Broken back dash???

Anybody broke their back dash? Mine has 3 cracks in it, and it squeaks like crazy all the time, very bothersome. Any ideas? I was thinking of just putting dynamate over them on both sides to help stablize the cracks but don't know if that will work or if the dynamte will just tear when the metal flexes. thanks

Well the back dash is welded into the car so replacment would be a *****, and it broke there the speakers are placed, there is about a 3x6in slot in the dash 3 inches in front of the speakers, this is were the two cracks are and the thifd is in between the two 3x6 slots. The dash broke I'm sure from the stress of the subs just shakin the crap outta it, cuz when it hits hard it shakes your eyes so that is the culprate.

I would say mix up a nice batch of JB weld and fill the cracks and not drive the car till it sets.

Yah I was thinkin bout jb weld and then dynamate over it for extra support so I guess thats what I'll do and see if that fixes the problem. Thanks

No problem, let me know how it turns out, i actually have dynamat on mine. I put it on the bottom of it. It also keeps air from my subs to go thru the holes and making my rear dash cover vibrate uba nd down.

Why dont you actually have it welded up. That is the strongest thing to do instead of jb weld. Dont get me wrong I like jb weld and it is a good strong product but if you can get someone to weld it then it would be a lot stronger.

use some small pieces of plate steel and place over the cracks a few inches on either side.
Squirt RTV silicone all over the mating surfaces, then screw together with some sort of small bolts/screws. the other option is to weld it and repaint. veyr messy either way, but the steel/silicone method you can do yourself in the driveway.

If I was gonna go that route I was looking to maybe rivet another small piece of sheet metal over the cracks but not looking forward to riveting...I think I'll try the jb weld first, then if that dosn't hold I'll just actually weld the damn thing.

Jb weld will work, just put it on the top and bottom of the crack. And scuff up the surface so it sticks good. You can weld it, but have someone with good experience, cause welding a long crack on that thin metal with those up and down bends can be hard.

Any goon in an exhaust shop can weld that. If they can weld on round pipe, flat sheet metal will be easy.

and JB weld will not work. if there is enough stress there that it's tearing apart sheet metal, JB weld will not have the tensile strength to hold together either.

Yeah thats true, If you dont feel like paying some one to weld it, at least JB will keep it from moving up and down and squeaking. If you go that route drill a small hole at each side of the crack to prevent it from growing.

Well the cracks are already maxed out unless more appear so stoppin the spread isn't possible..I didn't notice it until it was too late to stop it and now the whole damn dash just shakes like a crack fiend.
