it wasn't running "really good" unless it was in the 14s. a VE stick should run faster than that bone stock.

i went to raceway park in englishtown nj. and it was a vg stick. the track from what i saw was kinda a slick that day. lots of cars didn't have a lot of traction.

In that case, 15.4 is a pretty good time.

Once I get the exhaust studs, fuel injectors, and fuel lines replaced then hopefully I can find out what this VE 5sp can do

Chris we should hit englishtown up one weekend. Let me know what weekends are good for you!

It'll do a lot better than a 15.4, I'll tell you that much!
I ran a 14.99 a few weeks ago on a track that EVERYONE was running a 1/2 second slow... So that made me feel pretty good..
then I found out last weekend my O2 sensor and knock sensor are both completely dead (i.e. registering open circuit on a multimeter = NO operation at all)
...
So I replaced the O2 sensor and bypassed the knock sensor.. I'd say it added 10-12hp, conservatively.
mid 14s? noooo problem.

Stick you head out the window when running the engine hard, listen for the snap-crackle-pop . It will detonate (I can promiss you that). Just pray that it doesnt burn holes in the piston heads.

I did this same bypass. Mine only detonated if I had my timing at 20 degrees with 93 octane. But I put it back to 15 degrees and no more detonation. I just did this bypass as a test and it definitely helped my performance while hot. Now I am back to my stock dead KS.

Really? first thing I did after the bypass was to get the engine REALLY hot by driving the **** out of it (with the bypass off), then I plugged it in and drove around the neighborhood in 4th and 5th gear, below 1200rpm.. even floored, it NEVER detonated- or at least never sounded like it was... and yes, I know what it sounds like.
