Bad News...any help would be great ASAP

I went up to my old junior college yesterday to see my buddies. So I go to the store while Im up there and all the sudden the car acts like it does not want to stay in gear(AUTO)and the rpm drops way down. But it did make this ping pat noise near the transmission I think. It really scared me and I dont know what to do. Then it would be ok and go on fine but it stills seems like the engine(well not the engine) or the transmission(could be) is about to go, but it still shifts through all the gears and up and down nicely engaging in all them. Maybe I got something wet that should of not got wet when I just recently changed the coolant gauge sensor. I had to get it towed for about 112 miles back home.

Can anybody help me out??? Anything would be great

Have you checked your fluid level. if it is low it will pop out of gear at idle and then nuetral bomb itself when the rpm's go up

Thanks MadMax92 but I just got some new fluid put in last week. I will go check again though? Somebody told me that it is not good to change the fluid in 30,000 mile intervals like most shops say but is this true??? Still any help would be great!!!

Yes you should change it, I would actually do it more often then that, but if you wait like 70,000 without a change your not supposed to because it will start to leak through the seals, I think it has something to do with new detergents that the seals would not be used to, and the old fluid has metal shavings/dust that supposedly keeps neglected seals from leaking. something like that anyway, basically if you change it keep changing it every 15-20,000 or so.

Its all good now. All my mechanic dead was replace my distributor cap and rotor. He adjusted the throttle cable and the throttle sensor and he showed me where that is which is the black box right next to the throttle cable. It runs a lot better now no hestitation at all even before I went for through the water it would could of hestitate at 2100 rpms just cruising but now it is running smooth. I think this weekend I am going to clean my throttle body out which will help even better.

Thanks again MadMax
