i bought a 92 max gxl for a friend's kid and want to fix it up so he has as little amount of probblems with it in college. I keep reading in these forums that hte window motors go out. What is it exactly that is notorious for breaking, and what year cars can i get boneyard parts from or ask the car parts places for. is it the motor itself that breaks or the track or something else. what can i replace now, to prevent probs. later? i need to replace the trans are they all that expensive? anyone have a rebuilt one with minimal miles? thanks

The window regulator itself is prone to breaking.. the regulator is the track and sliding mechanism that the motor and window actually mount to. the problem is there are small plastic pieces on this thing, and the plastic pieces get brittle and break over time.
I do not recommend buying these from a junkyard, because they will be in the same condition as the ones you have now.
Call courtesy nissan at 800-527-1909 (or your local dealer if you want to pay more for them)
Most of the parts from 89-94 models will work, as long as you make sure and get one with the same engine. there are two different engines in the 92-94 models.

of course, the only real difference between them is some slight appearance, and the engine. sheet metal and interior stuff are all the same.

the mirrors changed somewhere between 90 and 93 though.. I think it was between the 91-92 model years.. it's a styling change, and both mirrors have the same mounting holes, but the newer models have a more "aerodynamic" appearance. not that you're concerned with that much, but just be aware there are small differences like that all through the model years. I'd be sure to consult with someone or get part #s for your car and make sure they match.
hope that helps!
