92 SE, Anyone add a cup holder??

Ok, I know this is suppose to be a sports sedan but I gotta have my cup-holder. I just got my 92 SE 5sp and found there are no cup holders in this thing.

What are some good add-on aftermarket cupholders that people have installed?

Thanks

I have seen people make some nice ones but I was looking at advance auto one day and saw some that go on the air vents. I picked up a couple and have one on my GXE and SE.

They work pretty well and I have put many a large cup from fast food places in them without problems.

The only problem is they say type r or something like that on them lol.

hmm.. interesting, but I like my cupholders a bit more towards the front. Looks like your holder is inside the storage area. I used to have a Volvo 850T and the cupholder slid out of the arm-rest, pretty cool. (That gives me an idea, I wonder if the center arm rest from the volvo will fit into the Max?, I gotta check on that)

Anyone try one of these? http://www.drinkholders.com/index2.html

I've got the plastic piece with the 2 cup holders cut out, from the little pop-out drawer if anybody wants it.......

I did a little project with the drawer...put cd changer controls in there, so no more need for it

There's one on ebay right now for $25,
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33695
Before I buy please tell me if its really any good. What is the largest cup or bottle you can put in these things? I did a search online and some guy wrote that all they hold is a 12oz can and everything else spills. If that's the case then its no better than the crappy OEM plastic thing in the slide-out drawer. Do they work smoothly? Do they at least hold a fast-food medium cup securly? And hard is it to get the OEM slide-out drawer out? Any mods to be made to make the Saab unit fit? Thanks for any replies.

The Saab cupholder actually functions like a cupholder should. Granted you're not going to be able to fit large cups and bottles in it, it does fit 12 oz cans, small water bottles, and medium sized fast food drinks. And it holds them well. I've haven't spilled any drinks using it. Plus you get the bonus of a coin tray, which is kind of cool IMO.

It was very easy to install, all I had to do was line it up with the stock brackets, and drill small holes into the Saab cupholder where the screws would go.

I wouldn't mind if it held a little bit larger drinks, but then again I don't normally drive around with a big gulp in my car or do I eat in my car, so it works for me.

Nice find, those integrate nicely with the interior. I'm trying to save that spot for my CD changer control/display unit though. If I find an alternate spot for that I might go for this cup holder, there are tons of these on Ebay.

Thanks for the tip.

Yeah, I love mine, it holds my Extra Large Dunkin' Donuts coffee just fine... I didn't have to secure it in tho, it fits in snugly without having to be screwed in... A little TOO snugly actually, makes it a bear to take off the center console, but I'm going to fix that this spring. I can't imagine how I lived without it now

Good to hear that these work so well. I just got mine in the mail today. Seems like it will be great. Is it necessary to take the dash apart? I looked around the OEM slide-out drawer for screws and I can't seem to find any making me think that the dash trim has to come off to get it out. Or is there an easy way that I'm just not seeing? Anyway, I'm looking forward to installing it this weekend. If anyone could please let me know the proper procedure, possibly step by step if you could, I would greatly appreicate it. Thanks.

You have to take off the trim piece that goes around the radio and climate control unit to take it out. It's held in with the same brackets as your head unit.

Okay, I was thinking that was the case. I looked at Craig's site and removing the dash trim seems pretty straightfoward.
Possible dumb question but here goes: Can the drawer be removed independantly from the head unit or are they attached in such a way that need to come out together? I've never taken anything apart in a car before and I don't want to screw up my Bose. Thanks again guys!

It's pretty self-explanatory once you actually get in there and pull them out. Like I said, both cupholder and radio use the same brackets, so, yes you will have to pull out both of them.

once you get the trim off, the radio/tray is held in by 4 screws. unhook the harness from the back of the bose and pull out the bracket/unit. then the tray can unscrew (2 to 3 screws per side).
