1990 Maxima

I am considering buying a 1990 Maxima. It has 240,000 km on the car and 65,000 km on the replaced engine. Is there anything I should know about purchasing this car, in particular, how many km's would the rest of the drivetrain be good for? I understand that the engine should be good for ~200,000 km.

Cheers.

90 maxima

i have a 90 SE 5spd. at 170K mi (around 300K km), i had the heads rebuilt. the tranny is about 2yrs. newly rebuilt. i have since replaced pretty much everything on the engine. it runs great. like new. i added CAI and a full hi-flow exhaust front-to- back. therefore it is very loud. and i lowered it. basically, it rocks. the puny VG30E is not so bad now. those engines, too, despite their low power, have a great bottom-end when revved high. next is to upgrade to a hi_performance flywheel and clutch. then it will totally rock. future plans are to turbo it. as it is now, it probably has as much power as the VE30DE.

i'd buy it to mod or just drive as is. but don't spend too much, though. it's way used.

Sorry, I should have specified, it is the automatic tranny.

Cheers.

well. the auto is ok. but i don't see the point in it. is not any fun. but if you need cheap wheels and good wheels, then do it. you got a family, then? you need a car quick, yes?

the auto trannys in maximas suck...i'd get that checked...or else you might have to put in a couple grand...i'd also check the trunk and rear wheel wells for rusting...it's a common problem for 3rd gen maximas...check this post for some info on the rust...http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....hreadid=202670

i hope i helped out..if it has a little to no rust...and a good tranny...definitely pick it up...vg's are the s***

if you've driven/ridden in a ve by an "agressive driver", you will see they are nowhere near the same in perf.

VE v. VG

i don't claim the VG to be the VE. i said it probably has as much power as the VE after the mods i have done to it. power alone, i know, does not mean that nuances probably inherent in the VE are now suddenly present in the VG.

i have heard/read that the VE is higher maintenance and not as durable, despite it being smoother and with more torque.

Re: VE v. VG

You talking about a 30hp difference in power and a whole lot of high end power differences. Ain't no way your intake and exhaust gonna make up for that.

I have a modded VE 5-sp. My brother had a modded VG 5-sp. I could whip him pretty easy.
