finally both door handles are roughed in (pics)

I finally got off my lazy butt and went out and worked on my car some more. I have been waiting to make sure the work around the rear door handle wouldnt crack before I did the front. It has been 7 or 8 months since I did the rear and they arent cracked so I think it is going to be ok.

anyway I bonded the front door handle Saturday and went out there this morning and did the body work. I just have it roughed in and am going to finish it and the rear tonight and may bond on of the other side handles. If not I will do them tomorrow.

the 15s are just on there until I get my alignment so I dont mess up my 17s any more than they already are.

here are the pics.

I dont even want to do my other side much less mess with anyone elses lol...but if you flew me out to Cali I think I could take care of it .

The front is actually quite easy but the back is a pain in the butt because of the curve.

For sure, then once the paint goes on. BAM

Also, I am glad to see your newest summer search

awsm, how long did each one take? I am really thinking about doing that when it is time for paint. It is a night and day diff, I may have a body shop do it, if it is to hard.

Yeah if you have never done body work I would have a shop do it. I am not a profesional and although I am good at welding and putty for flat surfaces it takes me a while to do the rear. I spent about 1 to 2 hours preparing the handle and bonding it correctly and making sure I dont bond the handle where I cant get it open

since you cant weld the door handle I used JB Weld. You have to let it sit over night to cure completely.

I then used metal to metal body filler and spent about 2-3 hours on the front getting it just right. I am still working on the rear but have it real close to perfect.

Now a pro. body man will not take near that amount of time but like I said I am not a pro and have to do a little at a time until I have it perfect.

One of the reasons I waited so long to do the other handles was to make sure it wouldnt crack since I couldnt weld it...I figure after 7 or 8 months (maybe more) with no cracks its good to go.

what can I say I am lazy

It is finally warm and staying warm so I figured I better get on with it. I actually hope to be finished with the doors by this weekend and then save up for some paint. Do the jams, under the hood and trunk and then its off to my friends shop so he can paint it.

I hope to have it done in less than 2 months but that depends on how my funds and work schedule go.

as far as color goes. I am pretty sure I am sticking to that one I said the other day...but am going to go look at that one you mentioned and see what I think.

yeah if a handle breaks I am screwed

well not completely screwed since I can just shave them entirely. I did it this way though because there are some maximas shaved but none like this and I wanted to be original.

I really dont see a handle breaking though since you never hear of it and I asked Kaleb if anyone ever orders handles and he said no.

besides I rarely drive the car (little over 3k in a year and couple months) so I dont think I will hurt them.
