get a FSTB, front and rear upgraded sway bars, look at a post a on the front page here (want better handling) where someone made a RSTB, and get the warpspeedperformance sub frame connectors stage 1,2 and I think they have a stage 3 now but not sure.

you should be happy then.

Don't forget springs and shocks and better tires.

New Steering Rack very tight

I just put in a new steering rack, had 165k miles on the old one. Now I have very tight steering.

A little OT, but is there a way to reduce the Power assist for the steering? on my '89, all you have to do is blow on the steering wheel, and it has a major impact on your direction. Its "tight" as in, when I move it, the wheels move QUICKLY, but it just moves too easy.

Ideas?

Man, I wish my steering was that responsive. I hate the amount of play my wheel has right now. A tighter turning radius wouldn't hurt either. Anyone know how I can remedy this???

if you have slack in your steering check the tie rods and all other steering components for play. You cant change the turning radius though.

Yeah I figured as much on the turn radius. My best friend's dad used to drive destruction derby, and he said the only thing he did to help that was cut the rack on his steering and shorten it. That's not something I'd even think about considering for my car tho.

Not unless you planned on painting a big #1 on your hood and entering it in the next derby. The max wouldn't last a minute.

I can testify to this. Matt's car is a monster.

I had a lot of play in my wheel, but two weekends ago I had Matt replace my bushings and now its all good. I can actually control the car now and I bought a FSTB, Oh, Daddy Like!

I'm not really sure to be honest, because I got my FSTB a day or two after having my bushings replaced, so I felt a world of difference. I do know it feels a lot more stable in turns at just about any speed.

FSTB helps all the time, whether it's for performance or just ride comfort. it's similar to the SFCs in that it basically strenghtens the frame up front so that the car doesn't bend and twist between the time you turn the wheel and the time the car actually starts to turn.

hmm...i'm convinced. i guess it'll benefit me. some houstonians drive insanely and i gotta do sudden lane changes at highway speeds every now and then.

my next mod: FSTB

and as for the install...just undo those nuts, put in FSTB, and tighten the bolts back eh?
