First thing, check and see how clean it is, look for any fluid leaks under the hood, beneath the car. Check the headliner carpet around the moonroof to see if there is any discoloration due to a leaky seal. Listen to tranny for any grinding/ whining noises (just put in neutral and let off clutch). If possible, check axle boots to make sure they're still good and grease isn't being splattered everywhere; then make sure axle joints aren't poping. Have records of maintanence shown, especially of Timing Belt and clutch. And, if he'll let you, pull up the carpet in the trunk to check for rust, water damage (leaky trunk), and pull up carpet from driver's side (easy to do) and inspect for water and other fluids. One sure sign is moisture, another is peeled/ faded paint, especially up around the fire wall and lower, this is typical of a leaky slave cylinder which tends to leak fluid inside the car which will destroy the paint under the carpet. Hope that helps.

Wow!

It "looks" to be in great shape, which explains the bloated price of $4,500.....You're probably not going to get it for much less than $4k unless you find something wrong with it....

Now I remember what I hate about California every time I visit....all of the cars that were 15 to 20 years old that looked newer than my 6 year old car. Guess that happens when you drive in an area with ideal conditions for storing a car....

The car appears to be a winner....be sure to ask (or obtain during the test drive) the VIN number for the car and run a check on it throught carfax....

Good luck!

That reminds me....The timing belt! Make sure he has changed it twice in its life. This should have been done at 60k and 120k....If not, then walk away. Especially if it hasn't been changed in more than 60k....
