For those with KeyPad Probelms On The 3rd Gen Write up.
Okay I am Seeing a lot of problems how to reset the keypad, Well my part of the write up is to help those with some pics of the location of the security unit.
Get a flash light and move the passenger seat all the way back. and lay on your back facing up, head under the glove box where the passengers feet would be. now look up to your left... facing the door you will see a brass box with wires coming out of it.. locate the number starting with the letter "S" ex. S1329123..write those numbers down. IT SHOULD BE 7 DIGITS LONG!

Get out the max and and lock the doors. The Security light should come on the dash and then turn off. Press the St Button (last button to the left) Enter the digits you got from the box, after you enter it you hear beeping from the horn, at this time you must enter a new code with in 10 seconds. Pick a number that you can remember easily. The Code cannot be repeating Below is an example
Code consists in this pattern:
Keypad Button 1= 12
Keypad Button 2= 34
Keypad Button 3= 56
Keypad Button 4= 78
Keypad Button 5= 90
Any combo of the keypad buttons 1,2,3,4,5
cannot be repeated... 1 1 5 4 3
good code is......... 1 4 2 4 1 numbers dont repeat back to back
like the first one.
I think the code can be anywhere from 3-8 numbers.

I used this photo since my image station account no longer exists I Googled and found this pic from here on the org.
I had my Maxima since Sep 01.. and i was wondering the same thing on how to change my code... The dealership (stealership) wanted to charge me 100+ to take out the glove box and "Reprogram" the computer. B/S, and all it took me was 3 minutes...when you put your pass code you can open the window, open the trunk and or course open the doors.. the only thing you can close is the door.. the windows and the truck have to closed manually
all credit goes to http://www.kalebonline.com/maxima/ and the org
Have fun. Can this be added to a sticky?

So for opposing a question off the topic thread. But I will really appreciate any comments you suggest.
Re: For those with KeyPad Probelms On The 3rd Gen Write up.
I dont know my keyless entry code so I tried doing what your post said.
Well I tried entering the number after the "S" and nothing happened. I know you said to lock the doors and I tried that too and nothing. I got no beeping after the number at all, does it take a while until the beeping starts? I tried a few different combinations and nothing worked for me?
Any suggestions?

ok.. first is your keypad working?
next are you pressing the start button?
press the start button then the code, it should beep, make certain that you have another code to put in.. it should work

Yes my keypad works, but all the numbers are a little faded so I cant tell which one is the start button? that might be where i screwed up? and how long does the new code have to be?

Here is a picture, pic taken by KLoWnPR109, Thank you, As you can see this is the driver side keypad, keyless entry system. When you go and try to change the security code, you have to press the red button, strt/clr enter the security code, then you hear it beeping at this time neter a new code and then wait for the beeping to stop.. tada you just changed your code.. now press the button on the right it says lock on it.. the doors will lock
To use the new key code, just press the strt/clr button and enter you password. the doors will unlock itself, now at this time press the 12 button to open the windows, if you have moonroof, press it a second time and the window on the moonroof opens. If you press the 56 button you can open your trunk. I have done it before and locked my keys in the trunk, and since i have changed the code i just went to my control unit and entered my code and press the trunk buttin and pop..
now after you drove or finished using your maxima.. you can press the last button on the right lock, and it will lock it self.. no need to enter the passcode for that to work.. everyone can do that.. any more questions..btw.. i am using the words pics, pic, pictures, picture, keyless, key less, keypad, key pad, door handle, so that when people search they can find my post
so there.. I hope i helped the maxima community
oh for verification, if you enter the wrong digits i think the maximum number you can enter is like 18 before it shuts down and temporaryly stops working, its a security feature. after a few minutes the keypad is re-enabled. so make certain you enter the right code. also if you mess up in entering your pass word, just hit the start/clear button on the key pad and then enter your pass code. simple. ok any more questions.?
after all i am just
right?
after all i am just
right?
Anyone know the part # for the part that makes the beeping noise? I beleive it it on the driver door by the lock. I noticed mine stopped working last summer when I started hearing a noise every time I opened or closed my door. When I removed the door pannels 2 weeks ago to replace the speakers i noticed a part hanging that was full of water. I think that was it? Anyone know the part #?
Thanks
Thanks
Its called a chime assembly. The part that makes the beeping sound. I called a local dealership parts dept and they said it was $54. I then called Courtsey and they had it for #32. Neither would give me the part # WTF? Anyone have it or know how to get it?
Thanks
Thanks

Sorry to dig up an old thread but when I try and reprogram mine it doesn't work.
I hit ST to start then I start entering in the 8 digit code I have that starts with S. However, the keypad always stops beeping at the 7th digit. In other words I can't enter in the 8th digit.
I have to unlock, open the door and re-lock the door before I can enter the code in.
Anyone have any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong??
Oh and I'm not entering in the S before the number just the number.

Keypad problems
I followed the howto exactly and i didnt have a problem I did have to remove the box with the sticker on it and open it up to get the code though and it worked for me I dont know why yours wont work are you sure you go the right code?
I'm going to look again. I say on this website:
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.a...11163595506455
that the code should only be 7 digits long and can also be found on the engine side of the firewall! Anyway I got eight digits after the S so I'll have to find 7 digits somewhere!

Keypad problems
ok if you look for a box near the glove compartment it should have a sticker on it with two sets of numbers on it one of those is the 7 digit code you need mine was faded so i had to remove the glove comparment and take that box out. I had to open it and take the lil circuit board out carefully and flip it over to see the sticker on the inside which had the code on it. I put everthing back and then i was able to enter the code and reprogam the key code and now its working and I use it all the time.
Thanks for the help man.
I couldn't find the code on the firewall but I found I had written down the number on the box wrong. I had to count digits to make sure I had 7.
So for anyone who reads this, the number of digits should be 7 exactly, not 8 like I had written down

I tried looking under the passenger side for mine but i couldnt see it.
i was just about to take the dash apart when i caught a glimpse of the box through the small space where the glove box slides in. Was WAY easier than taking the dash apart.

i have a quick question about the keypads. i programmed it a long time ago but after some piece of **** ******* tried to break into my car and mutilate my passenger side door handle the thing doesn't seem to work anymore. i was wondering if it's possible i need to reprogram it. another question is do i need to press the ST button before i punch in the code i had? it's been so long that i forgot.

Hey tell me the symptoms for it (lol symptoms) does only one work? are there any tears or cut wires? I replaced both of my keypads because they were torn and BAM! they worked. Are you having physical trouble or programming trouble?
i didn't remove the handle that's messed up so i don't know if any of the wires are messed up. i was pretty sure the keypads were messed up but then my mechanic used them the other day to lock the car. i'm starting to question myself on whether or not i even have the right code. i'm thinking about reprogramming it in the next few days. how long did it take you to put in the new keypads and how much did it cost?
it took me exactly 15 minutes. and I got them for 2 dollars each keypad. that time includes the time taking the door panel off. So it makes the lil sound and they light up when you press ALL buttons on it?
Oh ok, you should be fine, be happy its not the hardware part thats messed up. Just go under the glove compartment with a flashlight and look real deep into everything and there should be a sticker, copy that number on it, IIRC its 6-7 digits
Sweeeeeet. Thanks.
I'll have to make myself do this when I start doing mechanical repairs on mom's "new used" 1992se Max soon. She doesn't know the code and neither does the previous owner, apparently.
HAHA ... I can change it now and she'll never know .... muhahahah. Too bad I have no reason to. Laughs are fun though. Laughs is reason enough. I'll find some way to prank her with it.

I'm 10000% new to Maximas and don't plan to be messing with one for long. I'm doing my mother a favor by working on her car. I have plenty of hands on experience with plenty of various other vehicles of "higher and lower caliber". I'm no idiot.
Still, I'm not sure if it is a GXE, SE or whatever. I only guessed. I probably should have reserved such labels until I was sure. Oh well. No need to get an attitude about it.
Maybe it came with the keypads as standard, maybe it was an upgrade.
The way you worded your posts almost seems like you're expecting me to go look at the car and find that there is no keypad. I'm not blind. The keypad is there. My mother bought the car from her friend who lives in our neighborhood and purchased the car new. Knowing them, I'm pretty sure the keypad has been there since the day they brought the brand new car home from the local Nissan dealership.
