I'm trying to replace my bearings NOW and I didnt remove the tie rod first. I waited till I removed all other components attached to knuckle. I thought I could use a hammer to bang it out instead of using the special tie rod puller. Jeff from Maxximum told me he bang them out with a hammer. Can someone help me with some tips and some mistakes to avoid? This thread wasnt helpful with tierod removal http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....+rod+dust+boot

I highly reccomend that you do not bang anything with a hammer. are you saying that that the bolts are out and the tie rods are stuck?

if you have already undid the bolt from the tie rod you can use a plastic hammer or something and tap it out. using a metal hammer might mess up the threads if you miss slightly.
if you're replacing the tie rod...then go to town on it.

One simply thing that ll save you some time , go to autozone and rent the tie rod puller and if it doesnt work then bang it on the tie rod puller .

ive never used a puller for either tie rods or ball joints. put it back together in a way that you can bang on the tie rod. if its loose(knuckle not bolted to anything) you will just beat it up. you may want to hit the knuckle where the tie rod bolts in. usually the vibration makes it come loose. if you do have to hammer on the tie rod, leave the nut on so you are hitting the nut and not the threads. hope that helps

Thanks for all the replys fellas.

Went to Autozone got the tie rod puller($20) and out it came, it sucks because I found a similar tool later in my dad's tool room with 3 grippers. I think the reason I was having problems was because my tie rod "bolt" was broken... after pulling the tie rod I attempted to screw the nut to the tie rod and now the "bolt" spins freely so the nut can only go up to the cotton pin hole where I can thread a stick in there to hold it in place. Sucks now its gonna rain the next 4 days here. Stupid rain messed up my weekend in the Hamptons.....Club Neptunes Rules!

if you turn to page 243 of your haynes manual, it says to use a two jaw puller to remove the ball joints "as well". Hence my asking. sorry if you are too big to answer simple questions that ...you don't have to. one of the reasons i post less and less here...

Then why are you asking questions that your Haynes manual has answered for you? Furthermore, I don't give a crap if you post here or not. Don't tell me about it. Just go away. You asked a simple question. I gave you a simple answer. Goodbye.

I wont bother with ranting and mud slinging as you will only bring me down to your level and beat me with experience. please reply asap with a smart comment. i can't wait. lol

Ahh, I am tracking now. I just saw your pictures on another forum. The Haynes manual assumes that you have followed the directions and removed the CV axle. Failing to do so will not allow the use of a two jaw puller because the you can't fully remove the reataining bolt. It will bump into the bottom of your axle.

If you remove the cv axle, then you can invert the two jaw puller and use it to seperate the ball joint. See?

YGM.
