bolt ons?!?! Are you scared?
OK guys here is the thing, every forum I go to I hear pop charger, underdrive pulleys spark plugs and wires, ect. What I never hear is cams, heads ported and polished, headers, rods, pistons, crankshafts, ect. It seems like all that any body ever does anymore is the easy and cheap stuff. ARE they scared? I have a 1990 maxima with the vg30e engine in it. most people dont know that the block is the same as the old 300z. I constantly here people out here in kansas city, mo say maximas are nice luxury cars and that is all they will ever be, but I will have the last laugh. currently I have my heads in the shop getting ported and polished, valves reseated, and Jim Wolf Technologies stage 2 cams installed. I also have found pacesetter headers and those are on their way too. It is amazing what is out there if you just look. Now dont get me Wrong they all have nice maximas but most of them have nothing but fast looks. I keep hearing people brag about 15's in the 1/4, big deal!!! show me a 13 or a 12 and you will have my attention. when was the last time a maxima was featured in an import tuner magazine? i can't remember there ever being one. we need to put our cars on the map guys. i am sick and tired of the lack of respect for us and our cars. so i intend to put our cars back on the show room floor not for just looks but for perfomance too. if you are with me then E-mail Me at samzke75@hotmail.com, maybe we can get discounts with group buys and gain the respect we deserve. if you would rather be a wimp then so be it but i am alway willing to put my butt on the line for RESPECT. mad:
Heh, heh, you sound like you know what you are talking about, and it even sounds like you have some money to back up your talk. Just be prepared to be ridiculled to death until you show pics, dyno sheets and time slips because a lot of people have talked the talk before but few have ever produced.
Anyway, sounds like you might be an old school guy from the days of the big blocks. Ah the good old days of real horsepower and dare I say TOOOORRRQQQQQEEEE!!! That's one thing I like about the maxima, it actually has some torque unlike the Honda boys...
Have fun with your project, hopefully you can put something together that would be worthy of a cover shot on a mag.

I think the reason most people don't go through all of that is the $$$ and the type of people that have Maximas.
I think Maximas are a good blend of comfort, size (comfortable back seat and FOUR doors) and sportiness. You can be respectable in the 1/4 mile, put in a great stereo and enjoy the quietness in the cabin at 100 mph on the interstate. Plus, take extra people to a nice restaurant and not have them feel like they are wedged into a happy meal box of a back seat.
If all someone wanted to do is run low e/t's at the track, they just have to dump a couple of thousand into a 91 Mustang GT, get a supercharger and be done with it. Or for front wheel drive and maybe a little more money get a stripped out CRX and put an Acura motor in it.
Drag racing is a different game than most Maxima owners are into.
Maximas indicate quite a bit more refinement in their owners than just dumping all their money into the engine and getting low times at the drags.
If racing is what you want to do with your Max, have a blast. Just don't wonder why more of us aren't throwing away our hard earned cash at something that can be done much easier with less money in a different car.

i'd love to work on my internals! but it is quite a costly procedure. i think that's why the majority of us just have bolt ons.
i don't doubt that our rides whether vg or ve have ever been brought to their full potential performance wise. but i know a lot of us are young guys with college to pay for and a serious lack of funds.
personally i'm going to try and keep my maxima for as long as i can and try to bring out it's full potential. but i also want to rebuild a mid 80's Monte Carlo SS (not aero-coupe) from the ground up. so at one point my maxima will have to sit on the back burner for a while. but like i said i want to have it around for as long as i can.
i'm quite curious to know the gains you'll get from all the internal work you're currently doing to the max.
don't let the flaming get you down...it's just that so man people come here with big thoughts & words of rebuilding their internals, boring out the block or turbocharging their 3rd gen. But so many of these people have vanished from the forums because they backed out of the project for financial reasons or that it just couldn't be done.
but good luck to you! and i hope that you can proove the flamers wrong with some proof of what your n/a vg can do.

i didn't know pacesetter made headers for our car.
please do not get them. pacesetter sucks! i here of the honda/acura guys constantly complaining that the pacesetters actually lower their power. and after owning a pacesetter sts i'll never buy from them again.
hopefully within this year one of my maximas will be in a magazine. it should be pretty fast when i'm done with it.

############### NEWS FLASH ####################
This just in:
Apparently the maxima is not a race car. it seems that although full of pep and fun to drive it was never intended to compete in motorsports events!
Seriously if you really want to do it right for drag racing(so called cause it's a drag compared to real racing) then pro stock it. Anything less is either boring or nitrus(aka gay).

no one has really tinkered with the VE (matt, bryanH, 4signs, aaron and sam [czar] come to mind as the hardcore) but i dont know of any who have done much if any internal work(nevin[where has he been?] and others did internals on VGs)..
lets just say when i'm done for a while i wont drive a maxima...i'll be driving a max-Z-ma. and no, i'm not some noob looking for the secrets to a TT motor swap (i already know that secret..its called $$$$$$).
i want to see pics/dynos/reactions when you're done!
Mmmm kaaaayyyyyy...
mtcookson.. sheer power doesn't do squat on Ato X. it's 90% driver, finnesse, and handling. I've got more suspension mods than ANY 3rd gen (yes, I do. try to argue, you won't win.) and I still get beat by '87 civic hatchbacks with koni yellow shocks, factory springs, and Azenis rubber..
I run STX class and am constantly beat by 4-5 seconds over good drivers in WRXs. at least I gained ground on them today.. I think I was only 3.5 seconds behind their times.

i know this guy named Da max who HAD a max but betrayed all of us for a high end honda AKA acura. why are you still here? you no longer belong.
For those of you that still care, the only reason i am doing this to my maxima is because it is hardly ever done. no i dont expect my car to be the fastest thing around but i do want it to perform to its full potential.
so is a cadillac and it is allowed to have some power. i just think that it is pretty bad that 4 bangers can beat our sixes. so i am going to do something about it. as far as buying another car like anything other than a nissan, it will never happen.
the only way i can afford this is because i am doing the work on my own. mtcookson, thanks for the advice you might have saved me 500. so far the cost is only 1200. thats for the cams, port and polish and new gasket set. the injectors are 180 to get rebuilt, thats next. 40 for ngk plugs.
by the way to all of you with no faith my money well is deep and it won't run dry.
Also, i didn't say i was againt bolt ons. i just was wongering why no one went internal and then bolt ons. i my self might consider turbo or super charger or nos. but that is after i upgrade my suspension and brakes. I dont want my car to just do good in the straight line but also in the oval and on the street incase i need to get away from trouble.
speaking of trouble anyone know where you can get a hide away license plate mount.
peace

and also I've been on here for 3-4 years now, TALKERS come and go...DO'ers pay the bills!
I can't let it pass without saying this 'pics' smily kills me every time it's used right, and I kinda wish I had some extra loot to blow to put those tank-tread set ups (4x4 only? hmm...) on in the winter.... just for ****s, giggles, and stares.

it seems like most of the people on here all have VGs, where my other VE owners at???? i've drove a VG before and my VE has more power so why isn't there anybody that's tinkerin with a car that already has some power to it, it would only make sense. but anyways VG30Epowerhouse, since you so well off money-wise, all the more power to ya!

that may be but it seems as if its only the VG owners that are tryin to turbo or anything major like that, i was jus wonderin when a VE owner is gonna try somethin major like this
