Mother Of God!

Ok, so changing your power steering pressure hose wasn't as easy as I thought.

For future reference...you'll need a 24mm socket wrench for the TOP
and a 25mm WRENCH for the bottom.

AutoZone gave me the SE model instead of the GXE model. If anyone is going to attempt this, and needs help - contact me.

Menel, you had some real fun :D

changing the PS pump on the mustang is easy.... keeping the lines out of the exhaust on the otherhand....

Well, you of course need ramps. Basically....it's just like a light bulb except your space is SO LIMITED underneath. A regular rachet wrench will be to bulky to fit. So you'll need a 24mm wrench to get that one down there. MAKE SURE THEY ARE VERY tight before you start driving again. Remember - it's a pressure hose. Any ?s just post up.

So, if I go get the correct socket and wrench, then it's simple?
Curious - mine on the 89 Max started leaking, so I need to change it out.

Another question - where did you get your hose? The local dealers want $210 for the hose - a little pricey, but I've read not to use cheap aftermarket. I can mail order a hose that claims to be true Nissan for 85.... what to do?

$210??? nah - I got mine at AutoZone for $36.

Yeah, 24mm socket, rachet, and 24mm wrench. AND Ramps - always helpful

Right - seems a 8 to 1 delta is hard to justify. Good picture - that's right where my hose is leaking :)

Having done the PS pump on my 92 SE and can say that ramps would be in the way for the lower conenction. Use jackstands instead and you'll have much more access to the front of the engine.

ramps werent a problem for me.....but then again, the pump is in a different place.

bijan gxe, where'd you get that FSTB? how much? and what year is your GXE?

gilley 06-08-2003 04:00 PM

Okay, $45 later (not counting a 24mm wrench and socket, I have a new high pressure power steering hose. The socket was useless on my 89 Maxima - no space. The real difficulty is the tight space and playing the wrench game. Other than that, this swap is no big deal.

oh, tighten the bottom connection first. :) trust me :)
